Duplicate Pokestops, what happenes to them?

Hello and welcome, everyone! I came here to ask about what happenes to duplicate Pokestops. For example, while back ago I nominated a Pokestop and it just so happened it was a duplicate, although it wasn’t in the pokemon go app, I’m here to ask two things:

1.Does that mean it’s already used but in a diffrent game, if yes, does nominating it in Pokemon GO means it has a chance of appearing in the game?

2.If it’s not in any of the games that use Wayfarer (if that could even happen after a nominatoin turns out succesfull), does nominating it gives it an another chance to appear in any of the games?

Please, let me know! :beverage_box:

What happens is that the main photo you submitted will be added to the data for the existing PoI.

The existing PoI will stay on the database and submitting it again won’t have any effect on Go - you can’t make it show up with submitting it more times.

You can check for things already existing on the submission screen in game (there is a toggle on the map in select location to show existing PoIs), or on the wayfarer web submission (which is much easier to interpret)

Also yes it can easily happen that something you submit won’t show up in any game, for example if its too close to other items. That’s common in busy places. Nothing we can do about that

If you are referring to this message, it is misleading:

The message should be “Wayspot live but not being used in Pokemon Go” when you view it in the Pokemon Go nomination map screen. They are just trying to indicate that the Wayspot exists already in the database.

Good morning or good night, but no, I wasn’t referring to this photo, although this situation also seems interesting.

This may be too much information, then, but I will try to explain.

When you go to submit a nomination through Pokemon Go, if you are right there, you will see exclamation points on the nomination map. This is an example from a different situation, but you can see it show Pokestops and other things that are not Pokestops:

If you tap them, you will see a screen like the one I posted previously. That will help you eliminate submitting some duplicates. It does not work remotely, so you must be right there when you check this map.

It gets complicated. though. There were imports of data to be used only for Power Spots that are not true Wayspots. They will also appear on this map in Pokemon Go. They will not have photos, unless someone has added one through an edit. Originally, they will look like this:

Those do not show up to reviewers, and will not be marked as duplicate if submitted. However, most of these imported spots do not meet eligibility to be submitted as a Wayspot.

The Web Submit form map does not show these imports that can only be used as Power Spots, and is a good way to check if something it an actual Wayspot or not.
