Duplicate waypoints

Hello. Today I am writing about a problem I have been having and I am not sure if it is user error or error on the company side. I play Pokemon Go, and I nominated 2 Pokestops, neither of which were in Pokémon go, but when I set the location, I set it on “This spot has been used in other niantic games” and both times they were flagged as duplicate. Should I signify in the description that I am nominating for Pokemon Go? I wouldn’t mind if both were iffy on wether or not they could be wayspots but both are very good wayspots, one a trail marker, the other a historical sign.

If a Wayspot exists, then it is correctly marked as a duplicate. The wording “Used in other Niantic games” is misleading, as it actually just means that it is not being used as a Pokestop or gym in Pokemon Go.

Hi,

If you would like to give the details of these title and location we can have a look at the issues to help explain.

Also as this is better handled in nomination support, so I shall move it there :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Just to make it more confusing :frowning:

When in the map click the “Used in other Niantic games”, if it has no photo or description there is a good chance it is a Niantic Import used as a “PowerSpot” (Dynamax). If these meet criteria to be a Wayspot (Pokestop / Gym) then you can nominate and it wont show on the review screen and will not be classed as Duplicate.

but they won’t show in the nomination map screen of the web submit form, only in pogo nominations. so checking the web submit form can help check for this situation.

Correct…

With all the PoGo mentions in the original post I assumed that it was nominated from there.

The confusing is just getting worse

I have been using the Web Submit map so much, I didn’t think of the import issue, and I even wrote this not too long ago:

But since the original post said they had been marked as duplicates, these weren’t imports.

When a wayspot already exists, and has a photo and description, but isn’t visible in Pokemon Go as a pokestop/gym, there is no point resubmitting it because it already exists. Ignore the “other games” narrative completely, as it is confusing and doesn’t mean what you (and a lot of people) think it means.

There will be something else nearby that is in Pokemon Go and the inclusion/density rules are preventing this wayspot from appearing.

When you use the wayspot nomination process in Pokemon Go, it says you are submitting a pokestop, so it is easy to interpret this the way you did. Unfortunately, this is misleading, as you are submitting a wayspot that you hope will become a pokestop.

I do think I recall seeing one of the ones I tried nominating as a powerspot, thanks!

Again to add to the confusion, Powerspots rotate so 1 without photo / description could be a Powerspot that is currently not active.

And to blow all our minds, people are able to update the imported powerspots with photo and description to make it even more difficult. It has been discussed that imported waypoints should be identified as such which would make it easier.

I have the same issue. This wayspot used to be a Pokestop and after an update disappeared. Then it came back, and now it is gone again. When I reported it, it was flagged as a duplicate.

Hi and welcome to the forum, why don’t you make a separate post with more details so we (or staff) can help better?

Don’t you just love to see problems like this!
