Duplicate waypoints

I have been using the Web Submit map so much, I didn’t think of the import issue, and I even wrote this not too long ago:

Will a Power Spot be considered a duplicate if nominated?

This is complicated to answer. Power Spots come from two sources: imported data that can only be used for Power Spots, and accepted Wayspots that are not eligible to appear in Pokemon Go as Pokestops/gyms. (See here for an explanation of that: Clarifications on Pokémon Go Power Spots ) The import seems to have been a one-time event. You can check to see points of interest that already exist by beginning a nomination while you are physically right at the location. In the “Set location” map scree…

But since the original post said they had been marked as duplicates, these weren’t imports.
