  • City: Towcester
  • Country: England
  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):
  • Additional Information (if any):The pickled pig pub has been shut for over 5 years and is now a bar/restaurant: the Moghul rooms. The picture edit
for the POI has already been accepted and it is live.

Hi!
A couple of things regarding this post: first, appeals of title edit appeals are unlikely to be addressed on this forum.

Second, regarding this specific pub, I’m afraid that even if you do get feedback the outcome has strong chances to be negative, as the staff is likely to tell you you are trying to change one location into another in an attempt at repurposing when the correct procedure is to report the closed one for removal and then possibly submit the new establishment if it is eligible. It can be confusing to know in what situation and why edits are considered repurposing, but (lest the defenders of British pubs descend on me) what you describe here does indeed sound like a strong change in establishment identity and positioning, so imo it would make sense for it to be reviewed on its own merits.

Sorry if this is not the feedback you are looking for, but I think it’s best to have full context on what the established practices around closed locations are.

This is what Niantic considers “repurposing” a Wayspot, which is considered abuse, unless this is simply a new name for the exact same business. If you have evidence that the same owners just changed the name to this, you should present that if you try to submit the title change again.

My recommendation if you want to fix this is to submit “The Moghul Rooms” as a new waypoint (it sounds likea great place to be social) and if/once accepted, you can submit the Pig for removal

That won’t get you in trouble with Niantic (but might with your local players, especially if its a gym)

Its also okay to just leave it inaccurate, since your choice is essentially punishment by Niantic for editing the existing item, or displeasure from your local community for removing it. I’ve found Go people dont mind stops disappearing and a new one popping up - as long as there’s still an item there, but they REALLY mind about gyms. I dont know about how the players of other games react though.

Thank you all for your feedback. I wait for Niantic to feedback (if any) but I will leave it as is. it is a pokestop, not a gym.

Just an extra comment: I just did this as the challenge is on, I ussually submit POI.

It might be worth for next edit challenge to highlight its “repurposing” rule as I’m sure other will do it.

We have asked several times now for the repurposing rule to be clearly documented as to what is and isn’t repurposing, with examples etc, because its not really very clear

I think the edit challenge has led to some warnings that were not merited, but probably others that were, due to these kinds of unwritted rules ie what is spam, what is repurposing

I agree with you that it all needs to be a bit clearer!
