That is good to know. You will want to log onto the contributions page and check through there that everything looks correct. If it is outdoor gym apparatus spread out along a route then hopefully there should be no issues. ![]()
Already on it!
I corrected a couple of typos I made, but everything else looks good I think! Thanks so much for the advice!
The fitness trail is a paved walking path in a loop formation that’s about a half mile long all the way around, and the exercise equipment is all spaced out several yards away from one another, and there are about eight of them in all. I also submitted a picnic shelter and a playground set, so hopefully they are all spaced out enough that there won’t be any issues! None of them are very close together, but I honestly don’t know what the requirements are for how close POIs are allowed to be to one another.
Thank you very much!
I’m having a lot of fun with this, so you probably will see me around!
Its not a distance.
It is based on splitting the world into imaginary boxes called cells. Essentially a mapping tool
This is technical in places but worth a read:
A Comprehensive Guide to S2 Cells and Pokémon GO | Pokémon GO Hub
When objects have a very specific location, such as fitness equipment, picnic shelters, then you don’t have much choice where to put the pin, so the cells (re proximity rules for Pogo) don’t really matter. if it doesn’t become a pokestop, it may become a powerstop.
When objects have a choice of location, such as a playground set, then knowing the cells can make a difference if you want a pokestop rather than a powerstop (or the other way round!), as you can choose where to put the pin when nominating and there is a legitimate choice of positions.
What you can’t do is try to move things after they are accepted in order to make them appear as a pokestop, if they are already in a good location and you are just moving them to a just-as-good location. People do that when they know about the cells and the proximity rules and are trying to tweak the gameboard.
Someone else in here mentioned that to me yesterday, too! I looked into it, but I wasn’t able to figure out how to get the S2 map plugin thing to work.
I think I understand the concept, but I’m not sure where the cells are in my area yet. Hopefully I’ll figure that out some day ![]()
Thanks for the info, it’s really helpful!
This was my thinking on it as well, thanks for confirming that! I submitted several in a relatively small area, so I’m hopeful at least a few of them will be accepted as stops. Heck, even one would be an improvement, currently the park only had a single pokestop and the picture attached to it is kind of sad looking.
Speaking of- Any idea if there is a way to request an updated picture for an existing waystop?
I would be happy to provide a better picture showing the newly updated park!
If you post the coordinates and say what area you are interested in, it would be possible to drop in an image of the cells overlaid on the ‘satellite’ view so that you could use this for planning when you have a choice for pinning a new submission.
Please don’t use this to be tempted to put a submission in the wrong place, even if by a few meters, as this is abuse and can lead to sanctions. Just use it where there is a legitimate choice such as for a playground set.
Make sure to take foto yourself and never use photo shared elsewhere or using 3rd party photo.
I have no interest in lying just to minmax, no worries!
I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
Thanks for telling me that!
No worries, I like taking the photos myself anyway! ![]()
Yes. Be there in person, go into Pokemon Go, open the pokestop and use the button at the top-right, then the three dots at the top-right, then Add Photo
Well, that’s super easy!
Nice! Thanks so much!
The warning is necessary, because it’s easy to think it’s OK to move things around to maximise pokestops. I used to think this, but mostly used the cell boundaries to place things like basketball courts, tennis courts, bowling greens in a park that was fairly empty initially but ended up with a pokestop in nearly every possible cell.
Knowing upfront how to use the cells sensibly puts you on a better footing.
Have a look at this post I made earlier today.
This shows one of the bigger cells and the smaller ones.
Not everything on this will appear as a pokestop but it gives you an idea of how the cells work to space out points of interest in the game.
That is super helpful to know, thank you! ![]()
Oooooh! Yeah, that’s really enlightening! Thanks for sharing that!
This is example why s2 cell knowledge is important to maximize pokestop. Big field usually have multiple entrance. knowing where to submit can be the difference between it appear or no. C is playground while D is fitness corner. So A will be better choice to submit basket ball field because B is in the same cell with D.
This is helpful, thank you! What app are you using to see the S2 cells?
I am using iitc but you can use pogomap.info too if you dont want bother using plugin. We dont have accurate map at the moment because iitc is actually for ingress.
