Fake Pokestop - Removal Rejected

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Danville Park Fire Pit Area

  • Location (lat/lon): 39.35170, -76.52310

  • City: Baltimore

  • Country: United States

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any): The pokestop is for a community firepit that does not exist. The ‘firepit’ in question seems to be AI generated, as NUMEROUS AI generated pokestops appeared in the area at the same time. I am just now getting started on reporting them. This is the first one and it was rejected.

The location of this ‘firepit’ is also dangerously close to private property.

Welcome to the forum. I am NOT staff, so take anything I say as advice to get your appeal accepted. I don’t see any signs of AI in the Wayspot photo, but I am not good at that sort of thing, so you may want to point them out:

I can’t see a firepit on satellite or street view, but this area is a long grassy area that does have park amenities I can see further way, and the area is coded green like a park when I turn off satellite view.

If this firepit is not actually here, it may help your case to submit geo-tagged photos or a video to show that it does not exist.

I ran it through a random AI image checker. The entire image - 1% chance. A crop of the firepit and chairs - 97%. I have no way of knowing whether this is correct.

@KnittingCritter a timestamped photo or video would help prove this doesn’t exist, as streetview isn’t new enough.

geo-tagged photos is one option; a video which includes something definitely current (such as this thread) would be another.

Hello and welcome @KnittingCritter

It’s important when making an appeal that you provide current evidence. As a community we are trying to help you anticipate what you will need to provide.
Some geotagged photographs of the area so that the location can be established and support your appeal.

This is not a relevant point. What matters is if it is on Single Family Private Residential Property. It is across the road, so is not relevant.

The little free library nearby at 39.349040,-76.522338 looks odd with no real shadow like the other nearby objects

okay that does look odd!

This is the 1 that got me, why is this positioned blocking a small side walk…

Where’s the drive and the car parking gone…

That little free library is fake. And I live right by that ‘firepit’. It isn’t there. How do I submit a picture with geotagged locations?

Hopefully, staff could take a look at these, find the account and maybe remove before you need to do the whole neighbourhood?

Good Luck, you are going to be busy…

There are SO MANY in my neighborhood. It is crazy. The mural on Jack’s Fine Foods… no mural there. Someone went nuts submitting all these things. Or, they set up a firepit, took the photo, and took it down.

How are you filing the report? With this many, I would use the “Reporting Abuse” form linked at the top to start an email chain. Reporting Abuse in Wayfarer — Wayfarer Help Center

The fact that reporting the first one is going so well, kind of discouraging for the rest

Hopefully, once you do the report with so many examples, they will realize there was systematic abuse going on and it will be easier.

Thanks for the appeal, @KnittingCritter! We gave this a second look and decided to retire the Wayspot in question.

This one has had its removal report accepted.

Still showing on the map so will need to check later.

Still cant believe that Lamar is still on the Map!!!

I only got the confirmation in the past hour

I haven’t had a response on the removal report for Lamar yet.

:raised_back_of_hand: :raised_back_of_hand:

I have now  @SlimboyFat71

@KnittingCritter Several are now being reported and removed.

Come across the following which I assume is fake but as it states “recently placed” I have no evidence.

Using a “GPS Camera App” to show that it doesn’t exist might be useful.
