I’m just confused as to why my nomination of a geodetic sign was rejected, when geodetic signs are a category on Wayfarer. The appeal response was: “…it is a general sign, which is non-distinct.” Geodetic signs are often quite unnoticable, but an important part of land and spatial development. I’ve had almost identical nominations accepted. Some of the similar nominations were rejected, but because of safety concerns - no sidewalks, which is fair enough, but never because the sign is not of cultural significance.
The nomination was in quite a quiet, rural area, but with a car park next to it. I’m not looking to go back and nominate it again just to have it rejected anyways, just looking for clarification.
Do you mean the categories you choose when submitting a nomination? That is just data, and you will find clearly ineligible categories there, like elementary schools.
For every nomination, you need to show how it meets one of the three basic criteria: a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social. I don’t see that you have done that here. You simply said that it exists. For some things you don’t have to say much because it is clear how they meet criteria, but for something like this, you do.
Niantic put together some clarification materials last year. This one on survey markers may help as it talks about when the can be eligible and add background on what you may want to include in a nomination or appeal description.
