I thought there was guidance on flagpoles some where, but darned if I could find any.
Did I miss it?
I know they are generally frowned upon, most being mass produced and what not.
What about clusters of flag poles?
The 3 Flag Salute at 37.255604, -121.783855 seems interesting (Is there a way to link directly?)
Over at, Google Maps there is a collection of eight flag poles, some of which made them into the system independently. (They are from when the only rule was distance-between-portals, possibly predating Ingress going public). I’d always thought the collection should have been one spot, rather than multiple.
What do others think?
Thanks,
mrc
There was guidance on flagpoles when I began reviewing, but that is ancient history now. It said to reject them as mass produced items without a plaque or info board, and that still makes sense to me. However, having been accepted, they would probably not meet removal criteria. I have a copy of a screenshot where that clarification used to be on the Wayfarer site under “Addition Examples and Guidelines,” but don’t want to post it to confuse people that it is current, since it isn’t.
I am not sure what your question is. I think you are giving the first as a good example of a collection of flagpoles and the second as a bad example where flagpoles were accepted incorrectly? At that second location, I only see two flagpole Wayspots, and they both appear to be incorrectly pinned.
If you are asking if you should do anything about these two, I would recommend using help chat to get them to correct the location to whichever flagpole the plaque is on. If they don’t think it should be a Wayspot, they may choose to remove it, but I doubt they will.
I think the collection of flagpoles would be a stronger candidate than a single one, but it is easier to take a photo of a single plaque than a row of them, so I might have submitted this the same way, especially when that bit about the plaque was in the guidelines. But in the correct locations.
Thanks.
The purpose was two fold:
- Did I miss something?
- What would folks consider good examples
You answered the first. There used be be specific guidance; there no longer is.
One the second point, the first example is one I might accept (or skip on).
The second example, they have been in the system a while. My earliest record of it is 2017-03-07. I agree it is likely no worth doing anything about. I could see going either way. Someone submitting the other six (if interesting enough) individually. Or someone submitting one for the collection, and de-duping the existing against it. Folks could still add photos of each one individually.
But if something similar come up, what would folks think?
Near the first example is a single standalone flag pole that think should be removed, which actually started me down this path of questioning.
This one? 37.255514,-121.790914
I would not have accepted this as presented based solely on what I can see here but I doubt this would meet removal criteria. Removal criteria is for internal use by staff, and is not shared anywhere, but seems to only be used when the point of interest no longer exists, or if it might lead to legal issues. There may have been something in the supporting section that I don’t know about that made this acceptable, or it could be yet another incorrectly accepted Wayspot that is on the map for good now.
