I’ve been working on submitting as many POIs as possible for a local park in my area — I’ve already nominated everything I could that fits the criteria (signs, playgrounds, art, etc.). The idea is to help build up the area so it can be used for future Pokémon GO events or just to make it a more engaging place to play in general.
That said, I’m kind of hitting a wall now. I’m wondering if there’s any way to ask Niantic for support when a place has potential but might not have enough eligible objects left to submit. Like… is it possible to suggest a location as a future event spot even if I can’t submit more POIs on my own?
Would love to hear if anyone has gone through something similar or has advice on how to go about this. Thanks in advance!
This is probably the last challenge before the split. However, I am hoping there will be an encore event to help areas that have what Niantic considers significant amounts of nominations that need to be cleared.
So unless there’s some ridiculously large number of reviews left in your area, there may not be any challenges just for your area.
You can ask the community if they can change their bonus location to your area so that they can do some reviews, but there will need to be a fair number of reviews in order for people to consider changing their bonus location.
Another thing to keep in mind is the density/inclusion rules for PoGo. PoGo uses S2 cells to determine game play locations, excluding Power Spots. There can be 1 stop/gym per L17 S2 cell, and there can be up to 3 gyms per the larger L14 cells, depending on how may L17 cells are occupied. More info can be found here:
Typically, usually the big in-person events, such as in-person GO Tour, City Safari, and GO Fest get extra stops/gyms for the event. Mumbai, India has GO City Safari last month, and there were stops/gyms added there for the event, but removed a few days later.
Areas that are just hosting local events tend not to get extra stops/gyms, even if it is for a large event like GO Fest. I don’t live in an area I would ever except a large in-person event to be hosted, just local events by the community ambo, and they usually have the events in areas with a large number of stops/gyms, such as our downtown area or one of the universities.
This is more of a PoGo staff question than Wayfarer, since PoGo determines the game play locations, not Wayfarer, so you may want to provide feedback to them.
Hi! Cool to hear you’ve been making progress on your local park!
Could you please be a little bit more specific as I didn’t get the question in regards to “building up” - is this about Wayfarer events such as a review challenge? Or in-person game events? Or is it about somehow contributing to the development of the area with new real-life objects?
I’ve been doing my best to build up the POI potential in a local park I’m trying to improve for Pokémon GO activity and maybe future events. I’ve already submitted everything that fits the criteria — basketball and soccer courts, playgrounds, zip lines, resting benches, kiosks… basically anything I could find that might be eligible.
Still, I’m wondering: is there anything else I can do to help this park become a better place for the game? I know that a lot of this also depends on how many players are active in the area, Campfire activity, and possibly even local Ambassadors.
Or is it more about contributing to the development of the area with new real-life objects or structures that could later qualify as POIs? I’d love to get some insight on this — I really want to help my community enjoy the game more and make this park a great play spot.
This isn’t something that affects the number of stops/gyms in PoGo though. Like I noted earlier, 1 stop/gym is allowed per L17 S2 cell. You can certainly submit Waytspots that are in the same cell, but only 1 will show up in-game.
Not all approved Wayspots get into each game. For example, you might submit a POI that is already in the same cell as a stop/gym and less than 20 m from a portal in Ingress, so it wouldn’t show up in either game. It may show up as a Power Spot in PoGo, as unused Wayspots do get used for that.
I think you are wanting more people to play at this park, or for local events to be held there, and that’s not something that’s Wayfarer related. It’s really something you have to ask the PoGo community in your area about, to see if they are interested in having events there. I’d love to have events in PoGo held at places closer to me, such as the park I live closes to, but my community ambo never has events there since it doesn’t have the most stops/gyms in the area.
If you want more to play in this area, or for events to be held locally there, you may want to talk about it in your local Campfire group, or see if there are any local groups on social media. Wayfarer doesn’t have anything to do with game play events, unfortunately.
