Lately I’ve been seeing more and more of these types of things added to the game as POIs. I wanted to know what criteria are used to accept them, because for me personally they don’t represent any special value. And if they are added incorrectly by the community, what is the best rejection criterion to use when I come across them when reviewing.
Hello and Welcome @hiashi,
That’s a good question. Sometimes it’s hard to apply the eligibility criteria until you get used to it.
Of the three eligibility criteria of:
- being a Great place to exercise OR
- Being a Great place to socialize OR
- Being a Great place to explore
I consider this being both a great place to explore and possibly socialize. My rationale is that these boards tend to advertise different local events going on in the community. Learning this is a way of exploring and it’s a form of communication (more similar to Post offices).
Hope this helps!
Hello @hiashi,
This is a great topic. In the ones you provided above, they appear unique, distinct and in public places.
I think it raises another question I’d like to feel out the community on this topic. These can be quite prevalent, like in an apartment complex, in a recreation centre or on University Campuses. I think I want to raise the question about when you see a bunch on the walls in a building and these are not unique and distinct.
@hiashi showed examples above I feel would be distinct for their area (assuming these are in different areas of the city) and I agree with @LetsRollGirl these are all great places to socialize. But I think it does raise about when these become oversaturated?
For example, if inside a building, it contained 8 of these on the walls, these would not be unique, and saturated. I think I wanna raise that I agree with the social aspect, but these could be prone to over nominated in a small geographical vicinity?
If these boards actually informed about local events and activities, I might agree with you. How many such boards do you have in your area and town, and how often do you use them? In my case, such boards mainly contain for sale/for sale ads or companies advertising their services.
When I visit a new city that I don’t know, I would much rather find historic buildings or interesting sculptures/works of art than a board where Mr. XYZ advertises renovations, etc.
So if I come across something like this when reviewing, I will skip it so as not to spoil my statistics by rejecting something that, according to the standards (in my opinion, incorrect), meets the criteria.
PS. Do you also consider the billboards like in the screenshots below to be attractive POI?
I have had a couple of “Parish Noticeboards” accepted but the are both in good condition and being used as expected.
Not sure what I would do with these as they look like there are just used for flyposting.
Thinking these are like the “Official Street Art / Grafitti” argument and I would probably lean towards Refused / Skip.
Official guidance appreciated…
Yours look reasonable. Unfortunately in my country, and also in neighboring countries it usually looks like I posted above, mainly company ads, flyposting. In my opinion they do not meet any of the three main criteria. I also tend to reject such things, but which criterion to choose? Other type of abuse? Because nothing else fits here.
