Why not interpret the painted box as equivalent to a mural?
I’m not at all confident that the data folks know how to use language correctly. What I took from their comments was that businesses and similar venues should be removed and resubmitted if they changed significantly, but graphic arts updates may be handled via edits…
According to Niantic they said other “objects” in the same comment mentioning businesses. How is a painted box different than another object. Sometimes the boxes are replaced, upgraded and re-wrapped. What defines an object? It is supposed to be a material object that can be seen and/or touched.
I have other edits coming back where a memorial bench plaque was changed. Now, in the past I had no problem appealing them until this memorial table issue. So now I am not going to and have to wait for the reports to get processed.
OK. So a similar issue occurred with a couple other memorial plaques.
@seaprincesshnb suggested I use the form linked under ‘Wayspot Removal’ when commenting on my wayspot appeal of ‘April May Rotsey’.
@NianticAaron told me changing a the title/photo/description for this plaque was abuse. So I went ahead and put in reports for removals of the following wayspots:
All three of those memorial benches or table have new plaques. I have the screenshot to support my report being rejected and submitted them under Wayspot Appeals for removal.
For Frederick Charles the new wayspot was approved and can probably be seen already in the lightship database. To be honest this one you would need to remove a bunch of photos since it was massively overdone to ensure it became a gym at some point.
Anyhow, I am confused on this whole process now. Because I was told this was considered abuse by editing. Yet when I went and requested the removal via the link that was suggested this was the response from Niantic:
So it is abuse if I submit edits via the game but not if Niantic does them on my behalf when I have followed what Niantic has informed me to do to remove these?
Funny enough I checked Niantic Wayfarer to look and yes they updated it, but made an error on one of the individual’s names and now I need to submit an edit. I had nominated this bench as the one the people memorialized on the plaque was respected coach who helped his team win gold… Atleast it was still in queue, but again a waste of a nomination. Otherwise if you don’t know this information it would be just another memorial bench and I thought those didn’t meet criteria unless it was a rural area.
Just respond to that email and tell the oerson they made a spelling error. Include the photo again. Say somethingblike, “Thank you for making the adjustment. I see that you changed the name. One small update mire is needed. You spelled the name Jonees, but if you check the photo, the name should be spelled Jones.”
And be done.
How Niantic decides to handle it is up to them. Abuse, not abuse - dont get too wrapped up in that. Youve done what you’re supposed to do and they made a decision.
if there’s one thing about Niantic, it’s that they are consistently inconsistent. even the “rule” stated here is new info to all of us and as my response to it prompted, it’s not located anywhere else that people would be reasonably expected to see it.
So this thread started because I was trying to edit a wayspot at a park across town. Which was denied in the old forum and reported to be abuse by Niantic on this one. I then figured I would move it the 2metres to the correct location since it was off a bit and maybe that would help. However, they denied it via game and I reported it as removed etc. But the team moved it to an inaccurate location via help chat. Now, they reviewed all the history and are not removing it. Probably because they moved it about 50metres away from the original location and my photos are not of that location, which is ridiculous since my email that I appealed in help chat had the original location and they picked a random table int the park.
This is the second wayspot help chat had moved incorrectly. It took me 4 days and three tickets to fix the other one. So I go back to help chat with the ticket numbers possibly to fix that correction then try and remove it again?! The only thought is one of the team lives in the area and wanted this new stop created, which occurred with their incorrect move.
The reason for my edits and removals is because I am trying to teach my oldest to identify wayspots while playing and he enjoys scanning in ingress, but not just the ground. So we look for the objects etc and I put in the edits.
