Hispanic Heritage

Hello all,
Here in the U.S., we celebrate Hispanic Heritage month Sept 15 - Oct 15. Lets reflect on the histories and cultures of Latin America by sharing some of your Wayfarer contributions that showcase history, culture, or made by people from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
Lets share some of the Hispanic Heritage accross the world, whether its art, restaurants, memorials, dedications or contributions by Hispanics.

This one always makes me think of Tintino.

This one was rejected. I made a trip out of town to nominate POI and found this. It was on a lonely highway with not much else around ao i thought I’d give it a shot.

Don’t know if this counts as it’s not in the Carribean or Hispanic region.

As a proud Spanish person I will share some of my nominations that are part of culture and history of Spain.

I will start with this graffiti of two characters from one of the most famous Spanish comic series from 1958 to present. This one was my 3rd nomination in history.

Yes, I’m from Spain and I guess I have to participate in the joke. This is a place where people go to participate in different activities related with flamenco. Ole ole, ole, flamenco, sevillanas!

This sculpture represents one of the most famous Spanish paintings, La maja desnuda, painted by one of the most famous Spanish painters, Francisco de Goya.

These tiles are for one of the clowns from the group “Los Payasos de la Tele”, a trio of popular Spanish clowns that were extremely famous during the 70s-80s in Latin America and Spain. Shortly his tomb will be a wayspot too as is a place where a lot of people go to visit him. Los Payasos de la Tele - Wikipedia

Talking about tombs, here I have some tombs from some of the most famous and important people in Spain during XIX and XX centuries.

I’m going to talk a little bit more about this statue. Is located also in the tomb from this woman. She was one of the firsts female bullfighters in Spain. She had to emigrate to Latin America to continue with her career as our Civil War started.

But not everything can be beautiful. I want to use this space to share the following wayspot. This is a very recent memorial space created inside Atocha station. This place, with other two stations, suffered from a terrorist attack in March 11th in 2004. To make a comparison, this would be as important for Spanish people as the 11S is for people in the US. I just want to show my respects to this event in the Spanish history.

Now showing something happier, this is the most famous Spanish painting in history, Las Meninas (photo taken thanks to @elijustrying), painted by Spanish painter Diego Velázquez.

And that’s all. I could share highly more nominations that are a reflection of what is Spain. Surprisingly, I guess we are more than bulls, paella, sevillanas, beaches, siesta and parties :grimacing:

I didn’t think I had anything, but I do!

The monarchs, which again, represent the Mexican community here, as well as brick archways (yes, those are painted, not part of the building) are featured here:
