I submitted a historical cemetery, with the names and relevant information of the interred local persons important to the nearby area, labeled by the family name of said cemetery.
T’was rejected.
My rational and reasonable appeal was summarily rejected, with this nugget:
“The Wayspot nomination in question is a cemetery which is an ineligible location under Wayspot rejection criteria.”
That seems very silly, doesn’t it? An appeal rejected with a non-existent criterion, one that is actually counter to the rejection criteria.
Cemetaries are generally not acceptable any more. Old one that are in the game were approved prior to the rule change. However, if you encounter something like a War memorial that exists in the cemetary, it may be acceptable.
This is a cemetery of a Naval Captain, who… “discovered” the area, and is interred. Last burial in the cemetery was in the 1800s. Surely this would suffice?
If you’d like some advice as to why the community members think it may have been rejected, you’re gonna have to post the details. You can post a screenshot of the submission, including the main submission and photo and the supplementary photo and information. If not, it’s unlikely that anyone will be able to give you much help.
Criteria changes. The Cemetaries that existed were probably accepted at a time when they were allowed. Sadly, there was a period when some players of a certain game were being a bit disrespectful towards certain cemetaries, so it ended up with a blanket no, with a few exceptions.
Instead of using Cemetary, I would say Memorial site. Would probably be more relevant to that particular site. Cemetary has a negative view point in the community.
OK, a couple of questions, it seems to be fenced off. Is there anyway you can show that it’s actually accessible by foot to walk up to it?
Also, there’s nothing really identifying what it is. It looks like oblique in a field. Is there any sign or can you get the text on the actual marker visible?
First pic, the submission:
“The historical cemetery of the (BLANK) family. Captain (BLANKETY BLANK) (dates lived and died) is laid to rest here.”
Second pic, the supporting pic:
“One of the many historical cemeteries in (BLANK), the (BLANK) family cemetery is protected historical land. Publicly accessible to pedestrians by road.”
1st question: Yes, I could. Thank you for the great suggestion!
2nd: Unfortunately, no. It’s known to locals, and observed as such, but no marker with a title. Spot on observation, though!
Reviewing in my local area, it was actually interesting to learn that a former United States VP was buried in a nearby cemetery - I didn’t even know we had a former VP from my state. I’m still careful reviewing in there as I don’t believe standard criteria can apply in a place of mourning. I’m also careful if the (typically rural in this case) appears to be intended to be visited or might encourage trespassing to access or otherwise not be a great place to encourage mobile phone gameplay.
Just some thoughts to consider and wanted you to have a good published clarification.
