Just ran into an issue where I couldn’t get to my nomination in the “contributions” section in time to set it to hold and it got sent to “In Voting.” It would be great if there was some in-game feature to preset nominations with “hold” before it gets sent to contributions.
Reasoning is that I usually spend a few minutes to comb through my nominations and set them to “On Hold” so that I have ample time to edit them at home prior to submitting into voting. But after doing a bunch of edits to some waypoints, the edits created large gaps between my nominations and I missed changing one into “On Hold.” I know there are filter options in contributions but it’s just annoying to hit one submit button and everything gets uploaded while you panic refreshing to set everything to hold in time before it gets sent to voting.
This was recently addressed by staff in the latest AMA:
Keep in mind that it does take ML, the AI system, about 24 hours before it finishes its review, so you have that timeframe typically to put a nomination on hold before it may go into voting.
This doesn’t work like this. If you use upload later you run at an even higher risk that your nominations go into voting immediately after uploading at worst, because the so called Grace Period already starts upon nomination creation, not upload.
As this is a dynamic thing linked to general voting speed in areas it might have worked out for you, but it was not caused by Upload Later.
In some areas, I can not use upload later because if I upload 2 days later, they will go into voting already very quickly
I totally agree with the risk of upload later and hold. I just make sure to upload and place on hold within a few hours of recording the nomination. I have had nominations go right into voting when I release the hold but usually I have all my edits and location checks done the same day.
I have had issues with uphold later eating away my nominations, never being viewable in the Contribs Management too. While the bug is should be fixed by now, an auto-hold feature eases the system workload for submitters.
We don’t have to make sure, make the interface do it for us. Turn the usually to absolutely.
If I remember correctly discussions in the past have brought up the issue that a good amount of users probably don’t know about the existance of a contribution page. These submissions would never be released.
Personally I’d like to have that option maybe as a choice. Toggle on/off
