How did you first hear about the wayfarer community forums?

Hello everyone!

I have recently discovered that there is a whole community on here dedicated to helping each other navigate Wayfarer and having submitted and reviewed many nominations myself, I am thankful I have finally stumbled upon this community.

How did everyone first hear about this online Wayfarer community? I’m curious–likely because of my marketing background–how everyone first discovered this existed.

Regardless, I’m excited to be here and eager to get to know everyone and how these forums work!

Hello, The desire to understand why some of my nominations that met all the acceptance criteria and did not meet any of the rejection criteria were rejected led me to investigate all aspects of Wayfarer.

Hey & welcome @LanaDelRey !!

I came across this place when I bothered to read an email confirming receipt of a nomination.

Have learned a lot since regarding submissions and reviews.

If i remember correctly… i first heard of the forum from the Wayfarer Discussion Discord group the first day it was announced open way back so many years ago.

I joined the forums via a link on the Wayfarer page after managing my first batch of nominations.

NianticCasey introduced them on the Ingress forums, and I joined from there.

Below is a community back up of their post.

Before then, any Wayfarer discussion happened in that section of the Ingress Community Forums.

It was by magic. I one day opened a web browser and by magic, it appeared.*

Hello and welcome

It was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away……
I think I either got an email or someone posted on Reddit it was so long ago I have no actual memory of it. I was keen on having an official place to go and the statistics on the old forum showed I was a very early joiner. :joy:
It has evolved over time and this version is not quite a year old.
Do take time to have a look around and find the topics.
Because so much of wayfarer involves interpretation and judgement calls the forum provides a great way for the community to help each other.

For me also,to understand it better sadly its still a little bit vague,

In 2017 I got an email that I was eligible to review on OPR, with a link to the G+ group. The gameboard hadn’t had any additions in 3 years, and it was exciting to be able to add to it. Still is!

Every time the community changed platforms, they’ve let us know where to go for the new one.

Was a part of “Operation Portal Recon” in Ingress. This was the first incarnation of Wayfarer after the submission hiatus that was implemented on Ingress players before even Pokémon Go was a thing.

Kept close to the OPR group to keep informed of guidelines. Came over to the old forums when those were implemented and OPR officially became Wayfarer and followed everyone here to this new forum when that became a thing.

I discovered the forums after putting a lot of work into a wayspot nomination and getting it accepted 1st try. Only to be confused as to why it didnt become a Pokething. I poked around until I saw the “community” section and then from there searched for others with my issues and learned about s2 cells etc. As sad as it is to not be able to interact with that wayspot, I am still very proud of it. Glad it lead me here because ive learned so much info and had many of my personal view points changed! (while others remain unchanged which means I just ‘skip’ those).

I’m not sure how I first heard about the forums, most likely from an adjacent conversation from the Wayspotters podcast or Wayfarer Discussion Discord. But I do remember what first got me to go to the forums was to appeal some of my rejected edits and removals.

Thankfully the process has improved significantly since then… like having the text field when reporting a wayspot, and now being able to appeal directly through the contributions manager page. Since we’ve switched to the new forums, I haven’t had to make an appeal post; I can just enjoy the community vibe.

I had to come here to see why my nominations are always rejected. I still do not know why

I hate to see people so frustrated. Have you posted any rejected nominations in Nomination Support for specific advice? I could only find replies from you when I searched on your name. (I am not great at searching.)

I have nominated the same weather siren about 12 times. I try different wording, picture angles, everything. I know a weather siren should be a pokestop but cannot convince the naysayers. how do I post a rejection?

What’s a weather siren?

Is it a great place for exercise, being social with others, or exploring?

What about a weather siren meets criteria? I am not familiar with those.

Copied from Niantic Wayfarer

Must meet at least one of the three eligibility criteria

  • A great place for exploration
  • A great place for exercise
  • A great place to be social with others
