I don’t know if I’m in the right category. Sorry if I’m not.
I just need to understand how to change my wayfarer rating (which is on “fair”) because I would like to get the OPR gold medal on Ingress (I’m still blocked on 2433).
The explanation of this rating is that t I was too fast on reviewing the waypoint propositions (to obtain the gold OPR medal) and I made probably some mistakes.
But it has been more than a year that I validate waypoint carefully and slowly so I expected a change but no.
I’m a great contributor on waypoint and validation since before wayfarer (OPR), is it possible to have a second chance ?
I’m going to move this to reviewing support as it is not a bug.
You are doing the right thing taking more time and considering more fully. Keep picking away at it and hopefully it will change.
Do visit the Criteria Clarification Collection to make sure you are up to date.
Also be sure that you are expanding the tool tips - the little circled i - in the review flow for more explanation. And don’t be afraid to use the “I don’t know” option. That is a valid response.
Niantic increased the number of skips we have when they added edits to the challenge reviews. If you are not sure about a review, skipping does not hurt your rating.
I wouldn’t recommend this, as there are several different things that go into one’s rating. It’s possible that if you skip ones that are harder in your opinion, this could count against your rating.
Again, take your time while reviewing, and use all of the tools at your disposal. Don’t be afraid to open up Google Maps to get a better view. Web searches can also be helpful to make a determination, including if you think a photo might be from a third party source.
Being that ML, the AI system, is accepting many of the good submissions these days, what us reviewers get are sometimes a little harder to determine, so just use your best judgment.
I wonder if over time, this will make it much harder to be rated as good or great, simply because what the ML leaves us is stuff that isnt very “agreeable”
They specifically said that skipping or letting it time out does not hurt your rating on the old forum back when they took away the option that ends a session. I skip a lot, and it does not hurt my rating.
Yes, but if there is a noticeable behavior where someone is purposely not reviewing harder submissions, this could still be counted against a reviewer. The system does notice different behaviors, and these can lead to a lower rating and/or a cooldown.
Would be great if Niantic would confirm this either way, but how is it going to know you are skipping “harder” nominations. I know many people have reported back that their rating went up when they only reviewed the ones they were confident on.
They could see it is others have voted on the submissions, but it was skipped by others because they view them as “harder.” We don’t know everything that goes into ratings; we just know it’s a lot of math and algorithms.
Are you sure about this? Posting things as if they’re facts could potentially be misleading.
Last I am aware Niantic said that your rating is based on the number of agreements and disagreements, they don’t mention anything about skipping reviews.
You’re making assumptions that people skip reviews because they are “harder” when there could be a myriad of reasons that people skip reviews, pegging them all as people thinking they are “harder” and therefore not worth doing is generalizing and can lead down a dangerous road.
I went to good and then back to fair. I thought the same as you … what to do?
I started just answering the questions on a one by one basis and use “Don’t know” if I don’t know. I give my honest opinion based on the information that is supplied.
“Is this a good place for people to meet and socialize?” Notice the question says “good” – not great.
“Is this a good place for light physical activity?” Again “good” not great.
Pretty open ended questions really.
“Do you think this location is significant to the local community?” “Explore” is the heading but not mentioned in the question. Its more about significance to the local community.
In my case … once I adopted this approach I moved back to good several weeks later and now have been at great for a while.
I think Niantic producers need more waypoints in their games, I was too strict on wayfarer. I’ll change with your advices.
Thank you everybody for your answers!
It’s mostly about exploring and changing your mindset while your out and about then coming back and putting that knowledge into practice…if I see a Wayspot on the map in an area I either know or haven’t been to before or even a new Wayspot that’s just popped up then I go and hunt it down and some of the time while I’m out it’s like a lightbulb moment and I go “ohhhhh so that’s what they mean in the criteria” or I find a fake waypoint in the middle of a road and I have to stand there to submit a report with my location on to tell the system someone tricked it.
I will never state I know everything but keeping your brain active and thinking about things while in play and looking at mapping tools are two different things.
Wake Up @cyndiepooh lol it was a “out in the field” comment where if I see something that the criteria was teaching me but my brain doesn’t understand it at the time until I’m out exploring & then it clicks as to “ohhh now I get it”.
But yeah I know where your coming from as what used to be accepted may not be accepted nowadays.
