In Seating Benches, it discusses what benches are acceptable.
But, if a wayspot isn’t acceptable, how to you give that feedback?
Generic business? Well, it isn’t a business.
Permanent and Distinct? The feedback (and commentary in Wayfarer), focuses on the timeliness, not the distinction part, so can be misleading.
Accuracy → Enter other reason? Does the nominator ever see that? Suggested text?
I imagine this, or similar has been asked numerous times and explained (if not for benches, then other similar things). But, there is now enough content in this community that searching for things can be tricky.
This is what I use. The bench is nothing distinct to the surroundings. I wish I could just choose “Does not meet criteria” but we can’t. We should be able to.
We were told not to use this comment box this way on the old forum. I will see if I can find that and will link it if I do.
Edit: I can’t. I hope staff will confirm that the empty box with the prompt “Other rejection reason” is not meant to be used to write in that it doesn’t meet criteria.
I have heard of some using Accuracy to reject just to leave a comment, even though there clearly is a better rejection reason. There’s nothing inaccurate or abusive with the title/description/photo/location, but some still see a need to provide comments. Some of these have also noted that they’ve taken a ratings hit by continuing to do this.
I read Permanent and Distinct as the nomination has to meet both, as something can be permanent, like a seating bench, but indistinct. This is how I view Permanent and Distinct, that something can be permanent but not distinct, or something can be distinct but not permanent. If it doesn’t meet any other rejection reason and criteria clarifies that it’s a generic object, then I will thumbs down on Permanent and Distinct.
A generic business has to be a generic business, like a grocery store, pharmacy, or a fast food chain. Seating benches or graffiti tags aren’t businesses, so rejecting them as such is quite confusing. I’ve even seen community gardens rejected as generic businesses, and those really don’t make any sense, as they typically do meet critera.
I use other text box a lot. I don’t recall something saying not to use it.
If something is being presented as Interesting and therefore a great place explore, but it’s not, I regard that as being presented inaccurately and explain why. Like all things wayfarer there are many ways to interpret things and it comes down to that individual nomination.
Do you use that box without checking other options in that section? I can’t find the original post from the old forum and have several people digging who also thought that was said. But my memory may be failing or I may have misunderstood originally.
I am pretty sure it was on a post where I asked how to reject a bench under the section for discussing how to use the new review flow. I quickly realized that we weren’t getting answers from Niantic there and got called out on Discord for continuing to pursue the issue, so I dropped it.
I found the archive of my how to review a bench question, and found where I had linked to a post on another question there, and found the reply there I was thinking of, but it was from when the category was still called “Accurate and High Quality”
I am going to continue to review the way I am until I get my next educational email or until Niantic tells us otherwise. But they didn’t help us with the new review flow questions at all as far as I can tell, glancing through the entire section meant for us to discuss and figure it out ourselves: New Onboarding & Review Flow — Wayfarer
It is very sad to me that over a year later we still don’t have a definitive answer on the correct way to reject a generic bench.
Agree with you here, that Accuracy is for the title/description/location/photos, and any possible abuse within those 4 parts. The comment box there is to explain why any of those might be inaccurate, such as the actual location being too far to move the pin to and give info on where it might actually be.
And yes, it would be so nice to have the many questions answered, and not just for reviewing.
This raises the question that we should be able to pick between permanent and distinct, since I’ve seen a lot of nominations being rejected genetically when they fail just one of them. Ideally we would be able to specifically define if the nomination is likely to disappear or if it’s just not unique enough
