Apart from it being cold and windy outside, I managed to find a number of Wayspots today. (Some may get rejected as duplicates, even though they are different locations, but I will see how that goes).
Shopping Plaza can be great places to explore and be social.
I like to make sure that the sign is in a pedestrian safe area, that it reflects business that support social/ecploration:exercise, and that there is not effectively a duplicate of this sign just down at the next driveway.
It’s definitely safe to walk through, as there is some pedestrian crossing and some pavements. Can’t vouch for the drivers, who may not observe the rules of the road.
There’s a few places onsite where people can meet up, including McD’s, Costa and Pizza Hut (even though it’s possible it will close soon). Plus a fair few shops. There’s also a playground behind one of the Supermarkets that I believe was built by the company who owns the place.
Sadly, Pizza Hut is a loss leader in the UK when it comes to the restaurants. The delivery arm will still exist though.
Some of the Playground stuff has been submitted. Found a Basketball Court and another playground equipment that is independant to the other Playground set, so am hoping that would get approved.
Yes, it qualifies. I have submitted and had accepted signs like these. Although they are signs, they mark the shopping centre itself. Individual stores within the shopping centre may separately qualify without conflicting with this.
I will just add my personal opinion on these and a reason that I tend to skip (you now see why I will hit the Skip Limit fairly regularly).
I see the signs as just that, these are the places you will see here. If any of the places are eligible then they should be nominated.
IMO there are the same as a road sign that says “Turn Left to head towards the Interesting Place”. Nominate the Interesting Place, not the sign.
Remember: This is not meant to start an argument, I am aware that most deem these eligible and it’s the reason I would not Reject.
Edit: Just to add that I was nearly 20 when the local “Shopping Centre / Malls” opened so I have never seen them as places to visit. If they have a shop I want to go to then I will go but I don’t go to explore…
I totally get it. There are types of nominations that I skip too!
For these I think of it like a park. The park itself is eligible because it has one or more ways for people to exercise, be social, or possibly explore. So I’ll nominate the park entrance. Plus nominations for the athletic fields, playgrounds, pools, etc.
I’m wary of /Business Parks/ - these are neither a plaza or a park. For example, when I see a nomination for a group of medical offices I will reject.
people will visit a Park and not use the “other facilities” such as picnics, sun bathing (not a lot here in the UK), riding your bike etc.
Shopping places (and this is probably due to me being old ) is to buy stuff. I personally would not visit unless I intended to buy something. I don’t go “window shopping” so it’s a case of “I need to buy xx from Currys”, I drive in, park as close to Currys, buy the item then leave.
Yeah that’s a fair point. The malls and plazas near me have cozy little seating areas and pieces of art. So as a young person you could go with your friends and hang out without the need to shop. Though we would tend to eat.
As tweens and teens my friends and I used these as Third Places.
I think when shopping plazas have many chain restaurants, that’s when nominating the shopping plaza itself becomes more credible as generic chains typically don’t get accepted on their own (although I have seen a few get accepted because the Corporate Art was submitted. Panda Express, Starbucks & Raising Cane’s Chicken corporate art get accepted in my area).
I’ve only nominated a few shopping plazas; not typically my favorite as I find it harder to get approved and don’t want to waste limited appeals.
I don’t often resubmit because I don’t want to get hit with an “abuse” warning, for “spamming” nominations.
I’m going to drop the official guidance in here again about signs exactly like this one. If you don’t like these, by all means skip them, but voting down something that Niantic have said is eligible is going against criteria if the submitter has made a good case.
Used the other Sign located on the other side of the Park. It was more convenient for me to get to. I am going to assume that I won’t be able to submit the other one if this one gets approved. Opinions & improvement suggestions welcomed.
(PS. The Pokemon Go Gym Creation is completely coincidental. Only chose this location because it was the nearest to the Bus Stop I got off from, rather than going to the one I saw when I originally posted yesterday).
If you have two signs to choose from and are only submitting one, it is absolutely OK to use the cell layout to decide which one to submit based on how this will appear in Pokemon Go. This is when knowing the cell layout is useful, when you have a legitimate choice.
Looks good to me, but I would clarify “on average 2.5 milliion visitors [per day/week/month/year/revolution of the sun by Jupiter]”.
