Ingress Last Sync - Discussion

They could share the same submission system. They are largely sharing the same database, Recon definitely uses the same code. To that extent Wayfarer would seem to fit better as a Spatial product anyway. But hey, we’re just players…

I just had a great nomination for a historic memorial building next to a church in Scotland. The church isn’t a portal either.. this is one of those where the church might not get in because a secondary portal takes precedence. Usually I’d suggest putting the secondary submission on hold, but that might not be possible for the submitter..

But Scopely bought Wayfarer for whatever reason that was… I’m sure Ingress/Spatial would have to pay for access to that which is probably tye greatest factor as to why they continued with their own version.

Ok, I don’t think anyone has said anything yet, so…

Does OPR have forums?

It does not.

Ingress recommends using r/Ingress ( Reddit - The heart of the internet ) on Reddit for any issues as they get those threads added in to their slack/Discord/Teams/whatever channel they use, but it is a third party site of course where there’s non-NianticSpatial people moderating in their spare time for £0.

They have also said to use Bluesky (@ingress.com on Bluesky) as they can respond quickly on there and bonus it’s not Twitter.

From what I can see there isn’t an official forum equivalent to this one.

Boo…

Not everyone likes social media.

Yeah Ingress closed their forums - Upcoming Changes to the Ingress Community Forum so I don’t see they’d open a Recon one specifically

That was over a year and a half ago, and could have been before the sale of Wayfarer and the other games may have been considered. They could easily start a new one.

Besides, how do we appeal valid rejected removal requests?

Maybe this?

As for Recon/Ingress forums there wasn’t anywhere near the moderation activity/engagement on there as we are used to here, and now the Ingress team is even smaller than it was when the forums closed

They had lightship forum and ingress group on campfire, both sort of dead.

and no ingress ambassadors to help with engagement and moderation

Spatial doesn’t own Campfire anymore.

The campfire group was dead before the split, all new topics were automatically deleted, and the one remaining topic contained 50%/50% pokemon players posting codes and someone telling them to stop posting codes there :man_shrugging:

So why bring it up if it’s of no use?

Also, Campfire isn’t the best place to have discussions, as it’s only available on mobile devices. I pretty much use the forums exclusively on my laptop.

I also have issues with social media, and have either deleted most of mine, or just never set up an account. I think OPR could have forums at some point, once more users are brought on, and there may be more interest from users to be ambos/mods.

I get this as I dont use a lot of different social media.

And I have always felt fortunate to have an official forum to discuss the various ins and outs of wayfarer.
I guess with Ingress unfortunately its just not to be for now.

Brought just as an example - when you said they could started a new one - so, they in fact did start, but never wanted to commit and keep it alive. Either because they do not want to waste time on player engagement, or, they prefer one way engagement with anomalies and IFS, but without feedback/discussion forums.

I don’t think Campfire was every intended to be a forum, especially since it’s only an app. It think it was always meant to help one find events and the like, connect with the local community, etc.

Niantic had the option of selling all their games and applications.
In fact, I heard that Scopley wanted to buy everything from Niantic.
However, they decided not to sell Ingress and Peridot to Scopely.
Niantic also had the option of selling Wayfarer or sharing the database with Scopely.
But they did not, and sold Wayfarer to Scopely.

Given this fact, it is true that Wayfarer was unnecessary for Niantic and that Recon was needed.
It will take several years at the earliest for that specific need to become apparent.
All I can say at this point is that Ingres AG is looking for a high quality portal network.

Wooooo, that is a lot of assumptions. I would love to know where you “heard" your information.
