Today a gym in Pokemon go was removed. I walked out on the trail to see if the marker had been removed, but it’s there.
So many people have quit, because who wants to play a game with a bunch of cheaters?
You have to walk to it. It is along an established trail system and I had planned to submit more wayspots in this trail system. This just feels like abuse at this point.
This is supposed to be a game that gets you out walking and exploring, not driving around and bullying. I hope you will right this wrong and not encourage this behavior.

We all emphasise with your problems and I agree that playing in these kind of situations are very tough. Unfortunately, wayfarer can’t help with the spoofing players who are cheating.
Now back to your case. This looks a legimate trail which could be nice to walk. Great job already getting a photo to prove that the sign is still there.
However, you could make your case even stronger. Is there maybe a link to the route which you can add here? This would improve the chances of getting the wayspot back.
Do note that if the wayspot gets restored that it will not reappear as a gym, but as a normal pokestop if a new gym has already spawned in the area.

Thank you for your reply! I don’t think there are any maps of this trail system. This area is pretty rural with lots of trails. We got amalgamated into a larger city and we don’t get the services that the core city gets, unfortunately. Lots of trails have been submitted in my area, so I am hopeful that Niantic will see this for what it is. Sorry if I ranted a little, it’s just been really hard playing here. I’ll never understand how someone’s favourite part of the game is bullying others. Thanks again
If you are looking for a map of the actual trail try onx trails or onx hunt great topo maps that would plainly show the physical trail that meshes with the marker.

I’m sorry, I just felt that it was relevant to show that there has been malicious intent from two players towards other players. I have no problem with any teams, of course. There are good and bad actors in all teams. It’s hard to understand why an arbitrary trail marker is suddenly invalid. But I totally understand and thank you for looking at my post.
If you have actual evidence that wrongdoing is being committed by players, you can report that separately to help chat or through one of the forms at the top.

Thanks so much, you guys are all so helpful here! I have tried reporting the spoofers for years, but I’m guessing that’s pretty hard to prove. Other than spoofing, it’s just bullying for almost 5 years now. I don’t think there is anything that can be done, but try to just play the game fairly and avoid them.
