Title: Ferryhill Bar and Common Room
Description:
Located at Ferryhill House Hotel, the bar and common room is a place for both local people and guests to enjoy food and drink together in a friendly setting. There are screens for watching sports events, and also an outside seating area
Supporting:
I believe this is a great place to be social. I took these photos at 7:30am which is why its empty, but in the evenings every table is full and the atmosphere is really great!
More information:
This is a bar and common room where you can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and socialise and watch sporting events. Both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are served as well as coffee and hot chocolate. Its not an adult only location.
I realise I added 2 quite similar images here - I meant to use a wider angle shot for supporting and clearly it didnt include much more which I didnt notice at the time. I should have also made a collage with a picture of the outdoor seating too because thats a big part of why this space is cool
I submitted this on holiday so I’m not able to resumbit it in a better way as Im now over 500 miles away
What do you guys think? To me this is a really great social space akin to a pub, which are readily accepted in the UK.
I’m surprised that in the UK it got rejected in the first place.
I think most UK submitters don’t bother explicitly saying that children are allowed/welcome because they are especially those that are part of a hotel.
A bit puzzled.
So when you tackled that in the appeal it should have been ok.

Yes I wasnt expecting this to be an especially hard sell - was more thinking it might get put as a duplicate of the hotel itself or something like that rather than being considered inappropriate…
It was rejected originally for location inappropriate and generic business. Its not a chain or anything so that was also somewhat disappointing
I would also be surprised to have a place like this rejected. Do you think it might be because the photo is centered on the bar area itself? I usually submit the name sign in front.

Possibly? I just liked the cool shiny bar view. I am not a fan of signfarer albeit thats the easier route, I do agree.
I was having breakfast at the time, so when the staff had left the bar unattended I took the opportunity to take some pictures of it being empty so that they could be used for a submission! I think that might also be why I failed to get a better supporting pic as Im pretty sure a family was at one of the tables just out of shot and although people in supporting pic is supposed to be okay, I do prefer to avoid plus it just looks a bit wierd taking pictures of people eating their breakfast
oh, i love the photo, to be clear. was just trying to guess why it was rejected.

Yeah I understand
Maybe it will get a 2nd look by sharing here. I particularly value your opinion and Elijustrying’s so to have you both think its a decent thing to nominate is nice

Certainly in the early days of Niantic games, pubs were a mainstay of PoGo and Ingress. There would be howling if they all got removed now…
…however, I might look at a hotel bar and decide that it wasn’t distinct enough from the hotel. I’d be more inclined to accept it if it has its own signage as some do.

That wasnt a rejection reason though. Id have been more likely to accept something along those lines even though I disagree personally, its a valid thing to consider
But particularly with the appeal, they rejected it for selling alcohol… which is funny in the UK right? because that’s not exactly rare
The way I see this one is the hotel is a place to explore. Its a historic building and is now a local business. I didnt submit it, its really old - around 10 years old, so honestly not concerned with how valid it would be on today’s standards as it pre dates them and doesnt meet any removal criteria. The bar however, thats a place to socialise, and I think its more relevant to current critieria than the hotel. So I think there is a good arguement for them being distinct from each other
Hope this get overturned. I did look up the hotel, and they even have a kids menu for the bar on their website:

Gasp How dare you nominate a bar that sells Alcohol!!
If it’s any consolation, I had a part of a pub rejected for some reason, but got accepted on appeal. I hope your one gets overturned.

I should have included this in the appeal I guess! Lets hope a staff member sees this post and is able to revisit the appeal decision

I think British culture is something that needs highlighting to people reviewing from other areas really.
Im glad yours was accepted. Nothing has changed so far for mine
I don’t think Britain is the only place around the world that does family friendly pubs to be fair.
