Is a Wayfarer 30 day suspension counted as a strike in Pogo?

Hi experts, 2 months ago I got a 30 day Wayfarer suspension for placing a nomination around 50m off or something like that, and I did it twice in a year. The reason was of course to have them show in Pogo. I know what I did and I accept my punishment. I was unable to login to my Pogo/Wayfarer accounts for 30 days, with a white Wayfarer screen. And now I can log in again just like before.

However, I do not understand how this Wayfarer suspension affected my Pogo account status. Did this suspension give me a strike on my Pogo account, or not?

Yes, I fully understand that Pogo and Wayfarer have 2 different systems. Pogo has a 3 strike system and it is very very hard to get instabanned, and strikes are permanent. Wayfarer has more of an “abuse ladder” where offenses are weighed differently, and offenses can be forgotten after one year.

I contacted support. Wayfarer support says they can’t answer Pogo questions. I posted it on Reddit, and got many answers pointing me to various policy links I mostly knew, none that answer the actual question:

Is a 30 day suspension from Wayfarer side also counted as a permanent strike on my Pogo account?

Wayfarer punishments are also effective in PGO. So, yes you have a strike in your PGO account as well.

Hold on a moment. While the Wayfarer penalty count is explicitly stated on the site below, it does not mention that it also counts toward the Pokémon GO strike system. What you did was certainly wrong, but the site’s description also expects that those who have reflected will contribute properly to Wayfarer.
Since it’s not stated, let’s wait for an accurate response from staff.

Yeah, while there are several articles stating different things, how the 2 systems interact is just straight up only implied or open to interpretation.

Hello,
Thanks for posting here, and for your openness.

When you posted on Reddit I did have a read of the material.
It is clear as you have experienced, that triggering a sanction on one means that sanction is served across all Niantic accounts.
So the serving of “the sentence” is clear.
After that …
On Wayfarer for a year you are to coin a phrase on a hair trigger if you do anything wrong.
However if you keep a clean record for a year you are forgiven.
It does not state in the Wayfarer policy ( which triggered the sanction) what the ongoing effect is on the Pokémon Go situation.
I know that Pokémon Go doesn’t have any redemption ethos so once you get a strike it stays. I don’t know the Po Go policy details enough to be clear if the wording there is, if there is a permanent strike triggered by serving a sanction triggered by another game.
It could be though that would be the case, but it would be helpful to confirm that the serving of a sanction counts as a permanent strike.

So it would be helpful for you to have that confirmed by the Team so you can be certain about your situation.
As it is the weekend it may take a while for a response.

Getting a permanent strike would be countering the forgiving nature of Wayfarer in a way. I can’t justify ever touching it again if I have a permanent Pogo strike.

I can however agree that from a Pogo perspective, they don’t want to have players screwing with the main database for benefits in one game, that would surely create all kinds of office politics. So while Wayfarer might forgive it, Pogo may not.

No need to speculate without any citation, I’m sure staff can help clarify soon enough.

Hope so!

Wayfarer and Pokémon GO have completely different enforcement systems. While any punishment on one affects the privileges in the other, they are two different ladders. Any strike (as folks call it) caused due to Wayfarer can be removed off your slate after an year.

Thank you for the reply.

You mention

“Any strike (as folks call it) caused due to Wayfarer can be removed off your slate after an year.”

Do you refer to Pogo strikes here? Wayfarer does not have a strike system, as far as I know. And Pogo strikes are never removed, as far as I know.

No, I was referring to Wayfarer enforcements.

This part is crucial. In other words, even if counted in Wayfarer, it won’t be counted in Pokémon GO’s strike system. This should alleviate your biggest concern. Aaron, I’m correct in my understanding, right?
While you did make two mistakes in Wayfarer, I understand your worry about the strike system stems from your sincere efforts on a single account. Let’s channel that same sincerity into future Wayfarer mapping and build better maps together.

Thank you. So I take it that the answer to the question in the title is “No, a Wayfarer 30 day suspension (white warning screen) has nothing to do with a Pokemon Go strike.”

I am unfortunately not feeling confident with any answer, considering how differing answers I have gotten. The issue is that in the background, for 1/5 of a second before the white Wayfarer 30 day suspension screen showed, the following screen could be seen:

I needed to record it and pause just to be able to read it, it was only shown for 1/5 of a sec. This screen is as far as I know 100% from Pogo.

Then this screen from Wayfarer showed up:

I googled now for these 2 pics, but they are 100% what I got.

The messages from @NianticAaron read that the strike is from wayfarer, resulting in a suspension for all accounts (Pokemon Go and Wayfarer). The wayfarer strike will lapse after a year.

The strike does not separately exist for Pokemon Go, so the question about whether it lapses there or not is redundant. Only the effect existed for Pokemon Go, not the cause.

(The PoGo suspension notice appears to be generic and doesn’t clarify what happens to violations originating from elsewhere in Niantic. This is understandable, because it would have to be a longer message to accurately reflect all conditions, which would make it too long.)

This is intended behavior.

Ok, so from how I read it, the only Pogo account effect has already been done, and it was only a 1 month inability to log in, and this suspension left no permanent strike mark on my Pogo account. But my Wayfarer status is on thin ice for a year. During which I will only put the absolutely most solid nominations in the book, none “maybe this goes through” at all.
