Is this apartment building sign a good wayspot? (Eden Roc)

I’m just trying to see if my expectations are out of whack. Is this a good wayspot?

560 Eden Roc Sign

560 Eden Roc is an apartment community serving the people in the 94085 area.

Now, obviously I have no access to supporting material that may have been offered up. But, if I see something like this come across my review feed, should I accept it?

Let me hear your thoughts on what would make this:

  • A Great place to be social with others
  • A Great place to go and exercise
  • A Great place to explore

I’m struggling with the eligibility status based on the above. But I’m open to your thoughts.

Maybe, maybe, socialize, but… not from that pretty boring photo and description.

But, no I wouldn’t.

But I’m also seeing many similar spots accepted around here, including a couple I’ve reviewed and down voted.

I try hard to keep the spots legit. The way I look at it is, the database of POIs is important to Niantic as something they can license and feed that money back into their games. So, having interesting games I can play for free is important to me. But, when I see something like this, then I wonder if there is any reason to put forth effort.

I am so frustrated over these. Many of us have begged Niantic to make a clarification on these. But they continue to go live even though they do not meet any criteria that I can see.

Thanks for the good fight! :->

I agree if it has no artistic value. I’ve not seen one that does yet. I see many stops that don’t meet the criteria. Essentially the entire building is being nominated. That said, I believe i am about to transition to the poor rating so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I’ll probably just quit reviewing. Some days more than half of the nominations I see don’t live up to the criteria that is published, but then I see the stops go active.

I think “artistic value” falls under the “A Great place to explore” rubric.

At least, that is what I try to remember to tell myself… :-/

Unique art is listed as an example of a great place to explore in Wayfarer Help.

There are some apartment/neighborhood signs that have unique features, such as decorative fountains, sculptures, even hand carved and hand painted signs. This one I don’t see as being artistic; I see it more as noting the address and building name, more as being an advertisement.

I do tend to follow this in the Unique Art criteria clarification when it comes to these signs. While it mentions business signs, which can be advertisments as well, it’s a unique sign that artisiticly represents the business and is unique to it.

Yeah. I probably should have referenced that particular post myself earlier in the topic.

I did research (once again), before posting my question. But, sometimes one needs an interpreter.

Well, i can see that those promote exploring the Area, like Maps do.

Its, in my opinion, in the same ballpark as pedestrian bridges or tunnels.

Those aren’t obvious in beeing good wayspots, but they get accepted frequently. They allow you to explore the other side of a road or river.

I’d say this is a pretty weak argument, but anything wayfarer is subjective, i think people might accept that as “promotes exploring”.

I still wouldnt wave them through, but who am I to judge?

Do you think an apartment complex sign encourages people to explore the signs or apartment complexes?

I do enjoy urban exploration (despite a rant I just made about aggressively unsafe pedestrian infrastructure in the city) but I don’t find apartments to meet that. I do find certain neighborhood signage to meet that, but not particularly apartments.

I understand you admit it’s a weak (and subjective) argument and not one I’m personally convinced of at this time.

I don’t want to tag staff, but this question has come up over and over, and we continue to see them go live. It would help to have input from Niantic. Is this going to be another individual disc golf hole situation where people suddenly start getting warnings for things that had been previously being accepted?

I have the urge to agree, but in the spirit of beeing the devils advocate:

What’s the actual difference between a neighbourhood and an appartment complex, other than one is indoors and the other is not?

City development, planning, typically a more established infrastructure. Community pride.

Have you gone on long walks and taken in “historic” neighborhoods or learned about how a city developed by expanding into various areas?

I’ve already commented on this one before, but I think it’s a crappy neighborhood sign as well, for the reason I find the Eden Roc to be bad:

(And, yes, the title and the description are the same.)
