Is this worth an appeal?

Good morning, Fellow wayfolk…

I was wondering if you would be able to help/give your opinion on a wayspot nomination that was declined (automatically) I assume because it’s a postbox (and I know ERII postboxes are not as a rule accepted)

However I discovered this one on my travels in one of the nearby villages, and my running buddy explained why it was as it was (Blue) I thought it was interesting. However I only know what is in my nomination information from my friend and the limited information on Google… It may also be that I’ve unwittingly done something wrong with my submission, in which case (if you guys think it’s worth an appeal) I can amend accordingly/correct my error.

Thanks for your time.

Do you have proof to back up your claim? Otherwise reviewer might think you are making up story. Web link as proof will be hundreds time more credible than just few line of words

I google abit and found this . Are you sure its painted blue because of what you said?

Hi Tjoe,

Unfortunately this is all the information I have.

I thought it was interesting with it being blue, and something that the locals had done… But my information is based on what I was told by my friend and what I found on Google, but it doesn’t elaborate much, so I did think this may be an issue… But I assume if Google knows it must be getting it’s information from somewhere?

I have tried looking for a local paper article/blog post on the village website etc. but no luck as of yet. (But I can have another dig later)

I am not local but if i got this, i would think that you are just making up story.

I found one facebook page where someone relayed this story about this postbox in Chilthorne Domer, 19 weeks ago. The comment is buried in the responses to a post about a different postbox.

This seems like a real thing.

I would use a closer cropped photo so that there is less redundant background. I don’t think linking to the facebook page will help as as I had to click “more” about 10 times.

This is what I get in Google… But I’m very aware that Facebook is not a reliable source.

I know it’s not an airmail or priority box and it’s not a cricket world cup one

It’s fine if it doesn’t get approved (I mean obviously it’s nice to get them approved) but I just wondered if it was worth challenging

Hi,
Yes do a bit of digging.
I can seee there is a great community spirit there so I’m sure something will be around.

We have a whole long topic about U.K. postboxes

We will happily help, but you will need some reference material about this.

Is this even the same mailbox? The mailbox shape is different. I am not discouraging you to submit this. But know that this might be what reviewer see when they see your screenshot

That’s the link I found, but nothing else.

This is real and eligible, but you need to convince reviewers as well as get past ML.

It was painted blue between March 2011 and September 2023, which is a long timeframe because that’s the google streetview gap.

That’s a different blue postbox, but the comment about this one is buried deep in that thread, so google linked the Chilthorne Domer narrative to the thread’s first picture.

Ok found it. But i doubt reviewer will look this deep into it. Its not concrete evidence

Agreed, I wouldn’t use Facebook as evidence :slightly_smiling_face:

So I’m trying to see if I can find any local news stories.

Is there a deadline on appeals? Or do I have plenty of time to find something?.. Something tells me it won’t be a 5min job :joy:

No deadline. You can appeal something from 5 years ago if you want to

I wouldn’t recommend appealing anything postbox related personally. It needs to go to UK reviewers for them to see the value, as this is such a UK specific item. You’d want to get the story straight too, with some kind of link, news story, etc to prove what you’re saying.

No, I completely get that.

I understand from one of my first nominations that postboxes are iffy (nigh on impossible, as there are so many) unless they are truly unique.

And even with this one being blue… I understand it’s more the story and community spirit part that makes this one potentially a wayspot.

However, like you say I need to find proof and present that correctly, else it is just a postbox. Which I get 100% would not be approved.

I’ve managed to find this from the local village Facebook dated 2022… However again it’s Facebook

But I do now have a name, which may give me a lead

I love seeing this research unfold.

So I’ve been going through the local FB page for the village, and although it doesn’t appear to have been in the news/published in any local media that I can find yet. would links to the relevant posts be helpful?. By reading the posts it’s very apparent how much he meant to the local community over the 20years or so he was their post man… It’s a little heart warming

But I’m still trying to see what else I can find, honour him with a wayspot now :joy: it’s become a mini obsession

I saw they have a local community group.
Perhaps email them?

If you use websubmit you can attach 5 images. So a good conventional supplemental photo. Plus perhaps some images /screenshots from Facebook etc. you can put the full link in the supplementary but it might help the reviewer to see it.

I was thinking of emailing the postmaster seeing as I now know who he is and he appears to be the one who arranged the postbox turning blue.

So hopefully can get an official email, to confirm/back up the nomination and find out a little bit about the postie and why he meant so much to the local community.

:slightly_smiling_face: Thanks @elijustrying your input is very much appreciated.
