Hello team, I’m looking for some clarification on a potential nomination. I’ve been looking to nominate an entrance sign to a public community park however it appears the sign itself is used for a power spot but not quite in the correct location. I decided to nominate this specific sign in the correct location twice and both times it has consumed one of my nominations but has not appeared under contributions on my wayfarer. Would this be due to the power spot using the POI? I’m assuming it gets automatically flagged as a duplicate or something of the sort. If that’s the case is it possible to have the power spot removed so the POI can be nominated? I’ll add some pictures below, Thanks in advance.
This picture show’s the sign I would like to nominate
There is an ongoing issue that is causing submissions not to upload correctly. Some are appearing way after submitting, and others are just lost. See:
You should still see the contribution even if it is auto-rejected as a duplicate.
A powerspot that was imported can still be submitted if it is not already been through the wayspot review process. This is extremely confusing. The imports used to be identifiable from the placeholder photo, but photos can now be added through edits.
If the location is incorrect, you can ask help chat to correct it at Niantic Wayfarer
They will want evidence, and they will not move a correct pin to make it appear in PoGo.
I will also post this I have this written up for when I see a wheresmypokestop question:
I know the prompt tells you that you are submitting a “Pokestop” but you are actually submitting a Wayspot to the database. The Wayspot can only become a Pokestop or gym if it is alone in a level 17 S2 cell. This is a good article about S2 cells and how they are used in PoGo: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
Wayspots that are not eligible to be Pokestops or gyms still have the potential to be used as Power Spots. It appears that there is a 22m distance requirement from any Pokestop or gym for it to be used this way, and it seems there is a limit of two active Power Spots per L14 S2 cell, the same size used to determine gyms. We explorers haven’t figured out the schedule for syncing in new Power Spots, but it is not on a daily basis at this time.
The location correction looks like something that should be done from Maps Street View, but it looks like moving the Wayspot will probably make this ineligible to be a Powerspot either.
Ok so I’ll assume the nominations are lost or will potentially show up later. Is there any way for me to tell if this powerspot was imported or should I assume it has already been through the review process but due to proximity ended up becoming a powerspot when those we’re released. I’m pretty unfamiliar with powerspots as I took a bit of a break before/after they we’re released, I know the basics of cells but never actually used anything to look at them specifically. Thanks.
I confirmed that it is an Ingress portal already, so it is definitely a Wayspot. Going forward, this will not continue to be as easy a way to confirm that something is a Wayspot. Since Ingress is no longer a part of Wayfarer, that map will get further and further away from reflecting all Wayspots. We are hoping for a map of all live Wayspots, but for the time being this is the best I can do.
If the powerspot has a placeholder picture instead of a photo, you can be fairly certain it was an import. If you aren’t sure and submit the point of interest on the powerspot, and then your nomination is rejected as “duplicate” there is no penalty for you for doing that. Just a wasted nomination.
