Hi everyone!
I recently submitted a nomination that first got rejected by the bot, and after a first appeal it got rejected again for the lack of uniqueness or historical and cultural meaning.
- Title: Distributeur de poisson Famille Magnin
- Appeal note: That’s an unusual and unique local shop. That fisherman family sells their fishes through these distributors and are part of the local community. I think it is worth the exploration.
If I improve the description, could I try to submit again? I have some additional arguments:
- That local business is owned by a family of fisherman that has been around for a while, and is currently owned by the son of the family, Nathan Magnin.
- The (fresh) fishes they sell are right from the lake by which the machines are located (Lac de Neuchâtel).
- They have been facing some difficulties recently due to the decrease of fishes in the lake. There are a few articles from our local news outlets (Can I link these in the description?)
- That location is the only place where they sell fishes through vending machines and is considered as innovative. Until now, they were mainly selling their fish in the weekly Saturday market.
Plus the fact that a fish vending machine is rather uncommon, especially in Switzerland. Do you think that doing a new nomination for this spot could be worth it? If so, what should I improve?

@3tyncelle Welcome to the Wayfarer forums! It does sound like a unique setup but that does not in itself make the POI eligible. What was the description and supplemental information from your original nomination. What criteria did you say it met? A great place to explore, exercise and/or socialize?
Thank you!
Both the description and the supplemental information are in the first post (sorry it’s in french, I will translate directly next time if that’s relevant).
In the appeal note, I said that it met the criteria “unusual or unique local shop” from the guidelines. When selecting the category of the nomination within PoGo, I selected both business and its subcategory vending machine.
I’m sorry, I missed those. The categories do not indicate eligibility. For example, schools are in the list and are not eligible. While unusual or unique are a good start, they do not by themselves make a POI eligible. If I were presented with this, I’m not sure how I would vote. It’s not a place to socialize or exercise. It may be a place to explore as you stated but I’m not sure it crosses the bar for me. Anyone else have ideas to help here?
I do see this as being hard to get approved, as many may see a vending machine as a generic business and/or indistinct. To me, they’re just places to purchase something.
Even though the company is trying something different to boost their sales, this isn’t the first vending machine I’ve heard of that specializes in a certain item. I’ve heard of other fish vending machines in other countries, especially ones where vending machines are extremely popular. I’ve even heard of egg vending machines that egg farmers put out to sell their eggs.
So, yes, it’s a hard sell to both ML and the community for these reasons.

I have to agree that it is just a business selling their produce.
So the questions I would have to ask is that…
Do other similar businesses have similar as in that they sell direct to the customer? if not you could try on the “Distinct” angle.
Is the product different to any others, do they catch and sell a specific type of fish you could not get elsewhere?
Otherwise I think you are going to have an hard sell on this one.
Good luck.
