I did check the Spatial/Lightship map, and there is already a Wayspot for this cafe. There are 2 other Wayspots in the same L17 S2 cell as the cafe, so it won’t appear in PoGo.
What we are nominating are Wayspots, not stops/gyms for PoGo or portals for Ingress. Approved Wayspots get added to the Spatial/Lightship map, which each game used to determine game play locations. PoGo uses S2 cells and Ingress uses a 20 m rule. More info on S2 celles in PoGo can be found here:
To add a little more to Cyndie’s comment, the current Lightship pin appears to be incorrect. You might need to provide geotagged photos of the storefront but Support might help you move the pin if the location she provided seem wildly inaccurate.
Street View shows the store front to be at the coordinates that the business is tagged. This location edit might end up allowing the POI to appear in PoGO.
Yes, a location edit is going to be needed for this Wayspot. It’s over 10 m, so you can request one via help chat on the Wayfarer website. The correct location does appear to be in an empty L17 S2 cell, so a location edit may get it in PoGo.
I have one more thing to point out: your description has a reference to Pokémon GO in there. The bit “A perfect place to recharge both your phone and team” makes your nomination already ineligible
Being beneficial to Pokémon GO and it’s trainers also is not part of any rules in Wayfarer. The games are not part of the decision process as Wayfarer is about adding to Niantics database, nit to the games directly
Lol well okay, if we are going to address other points …
I know the prompt tells you that you are submitting a “Pokestop” but you are actually submitting a Wayspot to Niantic’s Lightship database. The Wayspot can only become a Pokestop or gym if it is alone in a level 17 S2 cell. This is a good article about S2 cells and PoGo: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
A good way to check and see if something is already a Wayspot is to turn on the toggle in the nomination map screen. This will show other nearby Wayspots that are not being used in Pokemon Go as well as Powerspot imports. I don’t know if that toggle would have helped in this case because it only works over a short distance and that Wayspot may have been too misplaced to pick it up there.
And since I didn’t mention how, you access Help Chat on the Wayfarer site. Go to Niantic Wayfarer and tap on the text bubble.
It would show up as a duplicate as it’s about 40 m away right now, and PoGo radius for gameplay is 80 m; I do believe that the radius to see dupes is larger than 80 m in PoGo. If they had the toggle on, it would have shown up as a duplicate on the nomination map.
Thanks you so much for all the reply. I don’t play Ingress, but good to know it is actually duplicated. As you all mention, I can report the current spot as it seems very wrong on the current map via Chat. I’m very new to this, where I should request this? I cannot find anything Chat in the forum.
If you click on Help on the Wayfarer website, there’s an orange bubble in the bottom right. You’re want to click on the bubble, then Wayspot Edits, then Location Edits > 10 m.
Another thing to note: I don’t have this issue, but some people find that their browser loses the help chat history, so they don’t see the reply. Help chat always replies. If you submit the ticket but don’t see the answer and it doesn’t get corrected in a few days, you may need to try a form linked above instead. If this happens, we can walk you through that. Hoping you won’t have any issues. Let us know!
You don’t really have to play Ingress to see the map of portals, but you do need to make an account. If you are interested, what I was looking at is iitc, with an additional pogo-s2 overlay to show the relevant S2 cells for Pokemon Go. This won’t show all Wayspots, but the portals it does show are correctly located.
I always like to include the disclaimer that if you make an Ingress account, you may be held to holding onto it indefinitely and it may affect certain background data for your Wayfarer activity.
There’s a lot more details than that and it’s one of those things that can actually be very useful or very annoying, depending on your needs.
Oh good point! There was recently yet another report of someone having all their Wayfarer wiped when they deleted their Ingress account. (Not just removed the app from their phone.) I will try to remember to add that, but probably won’t tbh.
