As it’s been more than 10 years now since #MissionsForGood and I’ve seen a few topics recently in Wayfarer spaces such as:
https://www.reddit.com/r/NianticWayfarer/s/BNOtDLwZAN
The bit of the text in the image I wanted to highlight (in case you can’t see it) says:
If there are no nearby Portals to use in your mission, submit a new Portal for your local charitable organization and include the #MissionsForGood hashtag in your Portal description.
So I wanted to ask here if you’ve seen them on your map, either as an Ingress player that came in to the game after this initiative ended, or from Pokémon GO/Pikmin and so on where you wouldn’t necessarily know the origin of these Wayspots. If you have, do you think they’re confusing to players around eligibility?
Whatever you think, feel free to share. I just wanted to have a topic here to refer back to as well if needed.
I have not seen the Iin game myself but have heard about them.
I do think they are confusing. They blend together many different things. I think that some thrift or charity shops could meet current eligibility. But other things like shelters, soup kitchens, etc are sensitive locations. And finally things like clothes donation boxes are boring infrastructure.
This is a great example of how criteria has changed over time. This one in particular, I think we should re-review and clean up as needed.
I have this local example here: Ingress
It’s a clothing donation box. Whenever a new player walks by it, they nominate all the boxes in the city only to find out that these are ineligible per Wayfarer Criteria. It’s very confusing.
I found about the origin after I asked someone on WDD. The Pokemon GO players locally had no idea about the origin and why the other boxes would not be accepted.
Later I asked some local Ingress Agents when I started hosting First Saturdays in the region. Only the long serving veterans knew about it.
I would love for them to at least be more visually distinct on the map, for example being displayed as sponsored Wayspot within Pokemon GO, while most players don’t understand these either that I interacted with, at least it would be easier to explain.
