Moving a Pokestop to let a Waypoint appear in Pokemon Go

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding Wayspots. I have three Wayspots, two of which are PokéStops that are within the same two cells. This means I can only see two PokéStops in Pokémon GO.

Would it be possible to have one of them moved by about 5–10 meters (through a location adjustment) so that it would be in a different cell and I could have three PokéStops there? Or would it still not appear in the game afterward?

Has anyone had any experience with this? The PokéStop isn’t placed exactly at the correct real-world location anyway. Could such a change violate any guidelines or rules?

Thank you in advance!

Hello and welcome,

Location of Wayspots must be as accurate as possible to the real world, so moving one just to get it to show up in PoGo is considered manipulating the map, which is considered abuse.

If the Wayspot isn’t in-game and isn’t at the correct location, you can request a location edit via help chat on the Wayfarer website. It is recommended to provide some evidence for the edit, like a geotagged phioto.

You can legitimately move a wayspot if it is in a not-very-good location and you want to move it to a better location. What you can’t do is move it from a good location to another location that is not any better, just for game purposes.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your reply and the clarification! I understand I definitely don’t want to manipulate the map. I’ll check the exact real-world location again and, if it’s indeed misplaced, I’ll request a proper location edit through Wayfarer with photo evidence.

Thanks again for the helpful information!

So, if a PokéStop in my area is placed about 10 meters away from its correct location, I could request to have it moved, and that would also cause it to shift out of its current cell (or into another one). Would that mean the other Wayspot, which hasn’t appeared in Pokémon GO yet, would then become visible in the game?

Until now, I haven’t really paid much attention to this, and it didn’t bother me or other players that the PokéStop wasn’t placed exactly at the right spot. However, I recently noticed that one of my older Wayspots was accepted and happens to be in the same cell. That’s why I was thinking about requesting a location edit I just want to make sure that the older one would then appear in Pokémon GO as well, which would be beneficial for me and other players in the area.

If a wayspot is in an incorrect location and is it legitimately moved, which causes it to move out of one cell and into another, then the pokestop-inclusion rules should get automatically reapplied for both cells (although not necessarily immediately).

If the original cell contained a second wayspot that was blocked, this should free it up to become a pokestop.

If the moved wayspot is now in a previously empty cell, it should remain as a pokestop.

To add to this, the best way to get something moved to the correct location is usually via the wayfarer help chat which is on the website. That’s because you can suggest the most accurate new location to them and then provide as much information, pictures, links etc to prove this, and a human will review it

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation! That makes perfect sense and clears up my question completely. It’s good to know that the inclusion rules are automatically reapplied after a legitimate location edit that’s really helpful information.

I’ll make sure to verify the exact real-world location first and, if it’s indeed misplaced, I’ll request the edit properly. Hopefully, this will allow the blocked Wayspot to appear as a PokéStop as intended.

Thanks again for your help and clarification!

Thanks for the info! I didn’t know the Wayfarer help chat was the best way to request a location edit. Good to know a real person reviews it and that I can include photos as proof. I’ll definitely try that appreciate the tip!

Yeah I have used it a few times and I find it much better than the in game process where you dont get to provide any evidence :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
