For the avoidance of doubt though, âfreelafgbâ is also not a word in english. Neither is FrealafGB
fwiw, it isnât trying to translate your name for me here with it on
great thought though
Definitely a good idea!
I wouldnât be asking if I thought it always works correctly But please let us know if you also observe this on different browsers.
I canât sign in on a different browser sadly
What does consistently happen when using that translate option is that the address of the reivew location disappears.
I had a look back from screenshots, and I did a lot of reviewing in Scotland, and I do have screenshots of my name being wrong while reviewing in Aberdeen where I wouldnât have needed translation. So potentially isnt linked?
Honestly the site is far too slow and glitchy to try to find a pattern today but Im not sure it could be translate due to those screenshots of Aberdeen edits mixed in with screenshots of âfreelafâ
I see - then I would still check the one you have for auto-translation settings. When I go into Chrome Settings > Languages > Advanced, I see some languages that I have set to always auto-translate, in my example below it is German - I donât even remember when I allowed it to auto-translate, but it must have happened when one time I encountered a page or a Wayfarer review in this language. Can you check if any language is saved for you there?
Reviewing in Aberdeen doesnât have an impact - your profile page is standalone, and no reviews come into contact with it.
The reason I suspect this is happening is that it was pretty easy to reproduce this issue by letting Google Translate auto-translate your username from any language, as shown below.
I just tried translating this page using Google Chrome, and your name changed to âfreelafgb.â
Next time you notice this happening, could you try toggling the translation on and off to see if thatâs whatâs causing it?
Thats so crazy, and yes if I try to translate my profile page it does indeed change.
Mystery solved.
Google needs an english lesson, freelaf is not a word and the translate must be really on and off a lot given the lack of pattern I saw
It needs a lesson in Tolkienâs work, probably
Indeed.
Who actually names a cat âMaelstrom Frealaf Hildesonâ? His brother got an even more dumb name - Ernil i Pheriannath. I wonder what translate makes of that? (its Elvish)
We called them Frea and Jack by the way because we are not insane.
