Need assistance for locked areas in my town

Hello,

I am the Pokémon GO Ambassador for the town of Izon in France (not far from Bordeaux).

City of Izon : Google Maps

As part of the Ambassador Program, I actively contribute to developing play areas, but I’ve encountered a very frustrating issue: certain zones appear to be blocked in the game.

Specifically, in two areas, I’ve noticed that no Pokémon spawn at all, despite the presence of PokéStops and Gyms. Additionally, all routes submitted in these zones have been rejected.

The larger zone is a natural area developed by the town and freely open to the public for walking. It would be an ideal location for Pokémon GO players (pedestrian access only, perfectly safe, beautiful natural setting, and a good concentration of PokéStops/Gyms).

The smaller zone is simply a quiet country road, suitable for walking and connecting two parts of the town.

I have no idea why these zones are blocked, as they are perfectly public areas and there’s no justification for blocking them (no schools, no trains, no emergency services, etc.).

I would therefore appreciate your assistance in resolving this situation:

  • Why are these zones blocked?

  • How can these zones be unblocked?

As an Ambassador, I am in contact with the town hall and can obtain official authorizations if needed.

Thank you very much in advance for the time you spend addressing these questions and for any solutions you can provide to resolve this issue.

Hey @RatonLaveur33 ,

Unfortunately, your request not something Wayfarer team can assist with. Please reach out to Pokémon GO support.

Thanks,

Hello and welcome @RatonLaveur33

As you mention that the main affect is on spawns it is not a wayfarer issue.

The only suggestion I can make is that it might be due to the information that the Pokémon Go Team use to determine areas suitable for spawns.
The community has observed that the land use coded in Open Street Map has been used to determine areas that can spawn.I don’t know if this is still the case. The base game map gets updated now and then. I think it would be worth having a look at that.

Good luck trying to resolve this.

Well done! The issue is clearly visible on OpenStreetMap:

The mapping used is completely outdated and no longer reflects reality at all!!

It was indeed an old quarry, but the site has belonged to the municipality since 2015 to be turned into a leisure area and a protected natural space.

As for the small area, it used to be a footpath that is now a road.

Everything makes sense now!

Thanks a lot @elijustrying

That’s great.
Get it sorted as soon as you can on Open Street maps seek help to ensure it’s done properly if needed.
Previous observations are that Niantic will take a snapshot of the data, and it takes awhile ( months) to process before a map update. My understanding is there isn’t a pattern to this. So the sooner it’s done the better.

I’ve made the necessary changes on OpenStreetMap, and while I was at it, I updated a few other things in the town—you’d be surprised how much has changed in 10 years!

I hope these updates will help resolve the situation in game !

Thank you so much for your help and valuable information.
