New outdoors sculpture POI removed within days

Hi,

I recently submitted a new POI in Pokemon Go, which was removed after just a couple of days of it appeared in the game. I am appealing for it to be returned back in the game as I don’t think there’s any real reason for it being removed.

The POI in question:
Name: Tom Engblom: Nimetön
Location (approximate): 66.484957, 25.718417 in Rovaniemi, Finland.

The sculpture is located outside Faculty of Arts, University of Lapland and was published in the beginning of June this year. It has replaced an older metal sculpture (currently not in any games afaik) in the frontyard. I have personally verified the creator of said sculpture to be mr. Engblom, and half of the sculpture can even be found amongst his works in the photo carousel on this website. On the website it’s called ‘Together’, but as it’s now part of a larger sculpture outdoors, it does not have a name yet (that I’m aware of anyway, hence the name ‘Nimetön’ or ‘Nameless’). The campus yard is also accessible to everyone all year around and it has winter maintenance.

Here’s a photo of the sculpture taken today from a different angle. You can see the university building in the background.

Please consider returning the POI back to Pokemon Go, thank you.

Sidenote:
It is unfortunately too common nowadays in Rovaniemi that legit POIs get either completely removed or moved to a different cell to make sure they’re no longer visible in game. This is happening especially to gyms and showcase pokestops. POIs also get destroyed with black paint which me and some other local trainers have discussed here last year. I feel like the current state of Wayfarer gives way too much power to the players, and sadly not everyone is using the tools given in a way that would benefit the player community. This might be the case now as well, but I understand that it’s difficult to prove.

Odd.

On the wayfarer map, this wayspot is showing as LIVE in Pokemon Go as a pokestop. It is in the same cell as Faculty of Arts (66.485160,25.717795) and therefore, according to the inclusion rules as understand by the wayfarer community, should not be a pokestop.

You are saying it is not showing as a pokestop in Pokemon Go. This is the correct situation, so there is no bug now, but there appears there was a bug.

(It will almost certainly get used as a powerstop on rotation.)

Hi,

thank you for your reply, this is what I was afraid of. It’s unfortunately very common for some local players to move POIs on purpose to make them disappear in the Pogo map.

Is there any way the POI could be moved to its original position, so it could reappear as an actual pokestop and not as a possible powerspot later on?

It appears to be in the correct place, since the sculpture replaces the pile of rocks in this picture:

It’s possibly a couple of meters to the NW of the pile of rocks, but it is definitely in the right cell.

The likelihood is that it was submitted in the wrong location, appeared as a pokestop, was reported for relocation, got relocated, has been correctly deactivated in Pokemon Go but not yet updated on the wayfarer map.

The only abuse in this scenario is the original submission location.

Hi again,

I went to stand next to the POI to take some more photos as well as a screenshot from Google Maps and from Pokemon Go. I’ve edited the Google Maps screenshot to hide my face in the top right corner. This will be my last effort to try and prove that the POI has been wrongfully moved and why I would like the POI to be returned to its original location.

 1. Location I’m standing at. My water bottle will mark the spot later on.

2.-3. Water bottle in the same location from further away to show better where I was standing in relation to the buildings, pavement asphalt, etc. Please note the lighter-colored pavement and how it’s a straight line all the way to the corner of the building.

 1. Same location on Google Maps. Please note how my location on the same line as the corner of the building, just like in picture 3.

 2. The submitted location circled in red (again, marked approximately, as I had to move the location indicator manually in the submit-window to show the difference in distance). The current location after wrongfully (IMO) moving the POI circled in yellow.

 3. Screenshot from the original submission on Wayfarer. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a way to turn on the satellite map view in the accepted POI submissions.

The marker here matches what you have shown as the location of the scuplture. It is in the same cell as the current wayspot location.

The submission map in the wayfarer account is not helpful. To get the actual submission location, you have to go the initial receipt email and you will find it below the photos.

What I like to do personally to get coordinates of a submission, is to rightclick the map window, hit inspect element and extract the coordinates from the link.
There will be a block that looks roughly like this, which has the exact coordinates.

<nia-google-static-map style="background-image: url("https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/staticmap?size=606x480&format=png&maptype=roadmap&markers=icon%3Ahttps%3Awayfarer.nianticlabs.com%2Fimgpub%2Fmarker-orange-64.png%7C >>> 12.345678%2C98.76543 <<< &style=element:geometry [...]

(scroll right on the link in the box above, it’s towards the end of my paste)

Replace “%2C” with a comma and you’ll have the coordinates.

That’s useful for your own purposes (didn’t know that, just tested, it works!) but if you want someone else’s advice, a screenshot from the receipt email (and a text copy-paste) is better if you haven’t deleted the email.
