I am new to Wayfarer and in the process of creating some Pokestops in my village. I would appreciate some help regarding the automatic rejection of this Pokestop. I see benches in the region acting as Pokestops quite often.
We do not know exactly what the automated process is looking for, so I can’t explain that exactly. But benches like these are just infrastructure that I would have rejected in review if I had seen them.
Benches are difficult to get accepted. Usually benches are eligible if they act as an anchorpoint for a nice viewpoint, or if they act as a memorial for an important person to the community.
Picnic tables however are much easier to get accepted.
Benches like the ones you showed are really difficult to get accepted.
The photo is not the best. That may have been why the automated process didn’t like it: It couldn’t see anything it recognized to be eligible.
Beyond that, I would not have nominated this and would have rejected it if seen as a review. It’s just a bench, nothing special. It’s infrastructure like the sidewalks and street signs. The challenge to the submitter is to be able to prove it it not “just a bench” and somehow meets any of the three main criteria.
Try not to look to other approved things as examples of what you should submit. The ability to submit has existed now in some form for longer than Pokemon Go has been a game. What’s acceptable and gets accepted changes over time. Sometimes things get accepted that most would say shouldn’t be approved. Relying on what you see already in game will disappoint and frustrate you in time. Instead focus on finding things that are great places to explore, exercise or socialize.
When you see something you think you want to nominate, set in your mind how it meets criteria. What is the story behind it? Can you prove that? (For something you may have to in order to convince human reviewers.)
Thanks for the quick responses. I understand the intention better now. It is actually an important bench in the village, even though it just looks like a bench. Close to the center and opposite the village’s most popular ice cream parlor. Normally well-occupied. I did read the rules, of course, but you also automatically compare it to other PokeStops you come across. So this didn’t seem like a strange nomination to me. This explanation puts me on the right track.
I considered it. But it’s probably just a little too close to another stop. I might be better off combining the bench with the ice cream parlor. It’s about the experience in the village. Enjoying an ice cream with friends or family, sitting on the bench with a view of the ice cream parlor. Maybe that’s better. By the way, I didn’t know that shops can be nominated too.
Shops can be difficult to get approved sometimes, but they definitely can be eligible, either as places to be social or explore. Reviewers may not see them as important as you do. You’ll have to convince them and good supporting information goes a long way.
I’ve had a college town pizza place accepted, as well as a doughnut shop that’s been around over 70 years. But at the same time, I had a local restaurant that’s been in business for 45 years rejected as generic, so they’re not slam dunk nominations.
The ice parlor is at 51.512727,5.493575. There’s a gym just a couple of meters on the other side of the street. The ice parlor has also been here for decades and is famous in the region.
My standard disclaimers when I mention S2 cells are to explain that these are community observations, not rules that Niantic acknowledges, and that using cell knowledge to misplace a pin into an empty one is abuse they take seriously. I know that you aren’t trying to do that, but always like to add that in case my post gets shared.
let us know! if you were not aware that businesses could be eligible, then reviewers in your area may not know that either. don’t give up if you need to appeal.
