New to wayspot reviewing, need some advise

I have done a few reviews by now, but I got some questions:

  1. I try always to use street view to look at the nominated stop, but sometimes there is nothing there, so there could be 1 of 2 options: there is literally nothing there( so a fake stop) or there is something there now that the google car did not picture at the time, soo… how can I be certain of this? what if I tell a stop is fake for this reason, but on reality is really there? (could this be a big reason why some stops are not being eligible?)

  2. When a Pin to a stop is not placed properly, I move it to the right location, but I feel kind of bad, because maybe the uploeder put it there so a valid stop appeared on the game (placing it where it really is would make the stop not to appear because there is already a stop on the cell) so should I let the pin misplacement pass? like if there are a few meters apart (I personally want the most quantity of pokestops posible, that is a win win for the game community in my point of view, so what is your take on this? (to go even further, I know a few stops that are totally fake or are things that are not longer there, but I am not reporting them ever, why would I do that? so there are less pokestops on my area? no thanks buddy, give me my field researchs and items please)

  3. Sometimes I feel the title of a stop could be better, but in my opinion this is not enough reason to decline a stop if all the other criteria is good, i dont think you can rename it, so what you do on this cases?

I got more, but those are the more important ones, thanks in advance

1: If you can see the other items in the background you can usually make a “Best Guess” that it is a new installation.

2: Nominators should always place correctly so don’t feel bad about correcting. I will also “Reject” if It seems to me that they have done it on purpose.

3: As long as the Title makes sense even if it’s not perfect then I will Accept.

  1. You don’t have to be able to verify a point of interest on street view, but the supporting photo(s) should help convince you that it is where the submitter says it is. (I am really happy to see you say that you do try to confirm on street view!)

  2. Never feel bad about correcting a pin if it is clearly wrong. It is abuse to misplace a pin to make a Wayspot eligible to show up in Pokemon Go.

  3. If the title isn’t wrong, then you do not have to reject. An edit can be done later. Remember that “I don’t know” is an option if you don’t feel you can give it either a :+1: or :-1: We have some forum members with very strong opinions on titles which could be better, but I would recommend an accept if it is just weak and not wrong.

on point 2: so you reject? you dont move the pin?

If it’s close by and doesn’t look like it was moved in to a neighbouring cell then I will Move, if it’s likely it was done to get a stop where it shouldn’t be then I reject.

1: yeah i know that street view is not necesary, but if it is there, I like to watch it on “reality”

2: yeah I know it is, but “abuse” i think is a strong word, because as I said above, if there are more stops is better for the players, but still I have rejected many stops because of the criteria, but on reality i would accept all stops

3: thanks I am doing exactly this

and P.S. Happy new year Cyndiepooh, I remember your name from a topic I created months ago

This is a bad decision.

If you are accepting where the majority are Rejecting then you are not going to get the wayspots and you also get the chance of getting Warnings / Suspensions which also includes for the games as well as Wayfarer.

Since we can’t tell why something appears to be placed in the wrong location , I usually just correct it if I can see clearly where it should be. Or if it is poorly placed eg in the middle of a football field I will move it to the nearest reasonable point at the edge of the field so as not to interfere with play.

If I can’t see it at the location and there is no evidence to help give me a clear indication of where it should be I reject under accuracy > location

Edited to add we are not provided with any information about cells when we review, so I have no idea how the location might be reference to cells.

yeah i figured this, thats why a said I am rejecting and following the criteria, but me personally would accept all

I appreciate the desire to accept as you ideally want more in the game and want to help.

However in the end it is not helpful. If you are making poor decisions your rating will drop, it won’t count towards the Pokémon go medal, and we have been told previously that it has less influence on a decision.

So in the long run you are better judging correctly and keeping your rating high. That way you will have a bigger impact on approving the places that should get in the game.

Remember that Wayfarer is not just to place waypoints in to Pokemon Go.

Wayfarer: Accurate mapping of real life “Points of Interest” that meet the criteria.

Pokemon Go and other “Niantic” games then decide which they will use in game.

This is why Niantic Staff will not mention “Cells” as it as no bearing on Wayfarer.

The knowledge of the S2 Cells is a good as well as a bad thing…

  • Good to identify where to place for locations that have multiple entrances (such as sports fields).
  • Bad as it encourages some people to incorrectly place for gaming. We then see them complaining on the forum as they have been suspended.

oh is much deeper than I thought, thanks for the insight SlimboyFat71

Depending on where you are, Apple Maps’ look around feature often covers a lot of areas that Google Maps doesn’t, so it’s helpful for reviewing. I wish they would add it to the Wayfarer website
