I submitted multiple pokestop options that were directly involving a bike trail and also a canal system with a safe path to walk and ride bikes and they were both denied. Any ideas on what I could change to get it approved? It was denied instantly by the automated system but it does not specify why.
Automated process is a rejection by the AI. Try taking new pictures and resubmitting.

Both of your ideas sound like they could be eligible. I suggest sharing one of them here. Folks are great about offering feedback that can improve a nomination. Or at least identify why they may not be eligible. So if you are comfortable doing so you could take screenshots of your nomination from your contribution tab. That way we can see the Title, Description, photos, and support statement.

It really depends on what your nominations are. Simply taking new pictures and resubmitting an ineligible object won’t suddenly make it eligible.
It would help to have more details about what you were actually submitting. “involving a bike trail” is a little bit vague, as there are plenty of things involving bike trails that are not eligible as they are simply infrastructure. For example, an entry gate that lets bicycles through but not motorbikes is just infrastructure, as is a sign indicating a shared footpath.
In order to get advice, you need to post the details as indicated by @LetsRollGirl.
