Congratulations on getting a wayspot approved and welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, not everything can appear because of inclusion rules - basically this means it is probably too close to something already in the game. If you want to know what is blocking it, you can post the coordinates (from the wayspot submission email) and it might be possible for people to check a map (which is getting gradually more out-of-date since it’s an Ingress map) ![]()
I have this written up for when I see a wheresmypokestop question:
I know the prompt tells you that you are submitting a “Pokestop” but you are actually submitting a Wayspot to the database. The Wayspot can only become a Pokestop or gym if it is alone in a level 17 S2 cell. (The S2 cell use has not been officially confirmed to my knowledge, but staff has acknowledged there is an additional step.) This is a good article about S2 cells and how they have been observed to be used in PoGo: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
(Eligible Wayspots are added to Pokemon Go in a sync that happens once a day normally. If it has not been more than 48 hours since it was accepted, it could just be that it has not synced in yet.)
Wayspots that are not eligible to be Pokestops or gyms still have the potential to be used as Power Spots. It appears that there is a 22m distance requirement from any Pokestop or gym for it to be used this way, and it seems there is a limit of two active Power Spots per L14 S2 cell, the same size used to determine gyms. We explorers haven’t figured out the schedule for syncing in new Power Spots, but it is not on a daily basis at this time.
If you would like to leave the title and location, someone here with access to external resources may be able to confirm if there is indeed an issue with the S2 cells. But since the sale to Scopely has affected these Niantic (now NianticSpatial) maps being updated, it may be more difficult. The gps coordinates where you pinned the Wayspot will be after the second photo in the email you received when you submitted the nomination, but the pin may have been moved in voting.
Do be aware this is a public forum if you would rather not reveal your location. I realize this is a lot of information to dump on someone, so please ask if you have more questions. Thanks @Cyndiepooh.
Hello and welcome @bigsister325
Unfortunately the most likely reason is that although accepted as a wayspot into the database of possible places for Pokemon Go to use, it has not actually been selected.
The most frequent reason is that it hasnt met the spacing /inclusion rules.
These are based on geographic software known as S2 cells
[A Comprehensive Guide to S2 Cells and Pokémon GO | Pokémon GO Hub]
If you can provide the exact location we may be able to find out if that is the cause.
OP check the second pinned thread at the top of this forum
12 posts were split to a new topic: Pinned posts- how to find them
@bigsister325 Don’t worry about pinned posts.
Simply let us know the location of the wayspot please.
Using a specific Ingress tool I can find a Granite Gate Gazebo - I wondered if that was close to yours. But we dont have access to a map that will show your wayspot so need the co-ordinates.
It may well be that if you have submitted some recently in that area that we are not looking at a detailed enough map.
@elijustrying any chance of sharing the knowledge of that tool? It might be infront of me, but I haven’t found it yet.
I’m guessing it’s Mission Creator
I should have said it is the Mision creator tool for ingress you can search by wayspot name. It is of course becoming less useful.
Edited to add ……less useful for wayfarers
It’s still useful for creating missions ![]()
Hi Niantic/ Wayfarer,
Thank you for your reply. It really helps. Below is the coordinates of this spot nomination, could you help to see if its complies with the S2 cells spacing rules?
43.54404 -79.66752

Hi Niantic Wayfarer,
Thank you. I made a mistake in the coordinates. As you can see in the satellite map, there are two Gazebo structures in the 1800 The Collegeway community. Their coordinates are:
43.54404 -79.66752 (black highlight) and
43.54413 -79.66747 (red highlight)
As you mentioned that the 43.54404 -79.66752 (black highlight) spot has been taken. May I change my nominated coordinates to 43.54413 -79.66747 (red highlight)? Both structures are gazebo. The new wayspot is called “Second Granite Gate Gazebo”.
Thanks,
bigsister325
Even if you change the coordinate, it seems it wont appear as pokestop.
Anyway you can submit edit location from help chat even though the wayspot doesnt appear. But it seems the coordinate that you provide is correct . Also moving wayspot into empty cell because game purpose can be seen as abuse and subject to abuse ladder system.
Due to there proximity I would take these as 1 item, a pair of gazebo’s and a 2nd 1 would be seen as duplicate.
Think the same as a picnic area, you should not nominate each picnic table.
Hello. You seem to be replying to us through your email account. It would be better if you interacted directly on the forum. Mostly, you would be able to see that you are not talking directly to Niantic employees. We are other Wayfarer users that are helping you.
