I think I would probably stand right in front of that railroad sign on street view and take a landscape orientation photo at that angle. It may require adjusting the camera settings if you are too close. Don’t use a screen snip from street view but go for something like this:

The Machine Learning model may accept it if it can detect what you are submitting in the photo, or at least allow it into community review.

I think some of you guys are out of your minds thinking that a submittion should meet the criteria of an actual newspapper article. it a decent foto with a good description in a place where there are not to many poke stops. that should be more than sufficent to add the stop. Niantic is taking this to seriously consdiering the submition are not made by paid workers and should just serve to better the game experience in those areas where it sucks. This type of scruteny is bonkers and all its gona do is discurage people first from nominated places, than seeing no improvment in their game play experience untill the game is dead. i guess tokyoo and san fran can still have some fun all by their lonsome.

It is illegal to copy someone else’s text and submit it as your own. That is not a “good description.”

It is smart to submit a photo that the ML can detect is something that could be accepted. I only offered advice on how to take a photo that would make it easier for the ai. The best way that I know to describe that is to think about a snapshot like the ones that are in the article they linked.

If you want to submit low effort nominations, the game is full of those. I won’t advise you on nominations you are trying to get into game.

I’m not sure why you’ve made that comment. Most of the comments here are constructive and trying to help improve the nomination for resubmission, as people can see the merit in this submission. The text issue is legitimate, as a large chunk of the description seems to be plagiarised from the linked Facebook page, and that is against the submission rules, so it would need rewording in the submitter’s own words.

The comments about the picture are also valid due to the fact that the Machine Learning could potentially have issues identifying the subject matter of the photo, causing an automatic rejection, which obviously isn’t the desired outcome. Whilst we don’t fully know the inner workings of the Machine Learning, we have had enough experience with it to know that it does struggle with certain things that it should really be able to handle better.

Your comment is not really helpful to the discussion and doesn’t really do anything to help @JASHAUNDAVIS16 get their nomination approved.

the comments are suportive and instructive however the benchmark should not be this high. my nominations keep getting shut down and if this is the standard you guys are using to evaluate submitions than there is something wrong with you. YOU will kill the game epecialy for rual players and players in countries where not every grafiti on every wall is already a poke stop. My only reaction to the post id what the hell is wrong with Niantic and its evaluation system. It points of reference in our local comunities not a phd thesis cmon.
And i do not think you can plagiarize from Facebook but thats true, copy/pasting is agianst the rules so thats a nice catch and most likely the AI caught that.
So other than the rant i think if You change just the decription it will probably go through.

I get that you are frustrated with the system.

If you would like help with not getting your nominations shut down, you can show us what you are submitting. I would suggest starting a new topic in Nomination Support though instead of posting here so that it doesn’t get lost.

If the standard of submitting a photo clearly focused on the thing you are nominating is too high, I understand why you are having trouble.

honest to God i dont even mind the rejections what drives me crazy is “Wayfarer criteria” as a friken reason. they dont bother even listing what is wrong with the submissions while im working for free for them so going the extra mile as some of the suggestions here said just rubbed me the wrong way. Its like NIANTIC does give a crap about players community or even the revierws and submitors.

I also wish that reason were more specific. But I believe you only get that reason when the email says “our team” decided, and that it indicates that the Machine Learning model has rejected your nomination. I think that this usually happens when it cannot detect anything eligible in the photo. That is why I put so much emphasis on taking a really good photo with nothing in it to confuse the ai.

arent we being ask to take up a lot of the responsability here? would a better company decide that AI can approve post but anything the AI rejects goes to the comunity for review, at least untill it learns inuf to do a decent job? i mean we only get a few appeals and its not fair to use them on AI mistakes.

That’s a really interesting idea. Though I think folks around here kind of like reviewing from the pool.

My only concern is that ML makes mistakes on both sides. We hear more about the ones that are rejected, since the nominators are vocal about it. But there have to be quite a few that it accepts that it shouldn’t have.

They actually have increased the number of appeals - which are fairly new anyway - so that we get 2, each on a 20 day timer. Yes, we are being asked to take up a lot of the responsibility. If we want game locations, we will put in the effort.

The AI rejections are seriously lightening the amount of truly bad nominations in the system. Selfies, family pets, blank screens - anything you can think of used to come through the voting pool. The ML filter is getting rid of most of those. I think the filter will put something that it can’t be 100% about back into human review.

Let me make clear that I have no inside information. I am going strictly from observations from a large group of people through the Wayfarer Discussion Discord, which is not affiliated with Niantic. I am not an employee, and I am not an ambassador. I am just trying to share tips that seem to lead to more successful outcomes.

Back in 1887 P.T. Lamkin built this barn/factory to produce broom handles to the area he was in. He later made it into a sawmill. They pulled old lumber and trees out of farm feilds, to burn them into charcoal and shipped them to blacksmith fordges in Detroit. Today it serves as the “Old Mill Antiques Market” for everyone to come and enjoy!

i changed my description, and posted it at the top, does everyone think its good? and help my choose which photos to use. if these wont work i can always go down there and take more, as i live awfully close.

i totally agree with everything you say, i think its unfair the ai can decide anything. like i said in the orginal post, what makes me upset about this all is people get wayspots that are literally in their backyards and what not.

theyre actually opening up this sunday for a big sale, does anyone think it would help to submit pictures of the inside?

Oh there IS a sign! I would try to take a photo with this sign more in the center and less grass in front of it.

I think that description rewords it adequately, but you have a couple of typos for fields and forges you will want to fix. Since you are submitting it as the “Old Mill Antiques Market”, you may want to switch up the sentence order and start with that. I have had this screen open too long so I am going to hit enter before my next thought.

If there is the opportunity for some different pictures I would wait to see what you can grab,
My gut feeling is still you are spreading across 2 different things too much. I think the focus on the antiques as a place to visit with a unique range of items might be best but I’m not American. If that was your focus then the 2 pictures zoomed in on items would work well move the butterfly in the top one to get a clear picture of the sign.

they have two signs actually, but are usually covered because they dont take care of the place to well as you can see. and i actually have submitted this nomination twice, the first time was with the sign and it got denied within a couple hours. so then i submitted it again, which is the one i posted here. i thought the sign would be misleading since it doesnt say the name. and i will be sure to fix errors with spelling and grammer when i actually submit.
