Hi, I recently had POI added in Wayfarer that isn’t appearing in PokemonGo. I’ve included the specific POI info below.
I’m curious why it didn’t appear (I don’t think there are already too many POI nearby) and if there is a way to tell if I’m submitting wayspots that will not appear on the map in PokemonGo.
I used to use the ingress intel map, but I’m struggling to find accessible tools to tell whether I’m submitting duplicates or POI that won’t be added to games due to existing waystops that aren’t in PoGo (or for other reasons I’m not aware of). Really hoping to find some sort of map/tools to ensure I’m submitting good POI and not wasting my time as well as reviewers.
I assume you know about the L17 S2 cell rules since you mentioned the map? Judging by the position of the pin in your screenshot, I think this would be in the same one as Harrison West Garden Path and not be eligible to show as a Pokestop/gym.
The best tool we currently have for checking for duplicates is the nomination map screen. Turn the toggle on and it will show you other existing Wayspots (or imports for Powerspots) that are not being used as stops or gyms. It only works while you are right there, though, so you can’t check remotely.
Blerg, that unfortunately makes sense. I’m in the habit of uploading remotely when I’m able to better type out descriptions. Will start looking at the upload screen when I’m taking pictures of potential wayspots, thank you!!
If you don’t know about S2 cells, I have this written up for when I see a wheresmypokestop question:
I know the prompt tells you that you are submitting a “Pokestop” but you are actually submitting a Wayspot to the database. The Wayspot can only become a Pokestop or gym if it is alone in a level 17 S2 cell. This is a good article about S2 cells and how they are used in PoGo: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
(Eligible Wayspots are added to Pokemon Go in a sync that happens once a day normally. If it has not been more than 48 hours since it was accepted, it could just be that it has not synced in yet.)
Wayspots that are not eligible to be Pokestops or gyms still have the potential to be used as Power Spots. It appears that there is a 22m distance requirement from any Pokestop or gym for it to be used this way, and it seems there is a limit of two active Power Spots per L14 S2 cell, the same size used to determine gyms. We explorers haven’t figured out the schedule for syncing in new Power Spots, but it is not on a daily basis at this time.
