POIs not showing up on Pogo

Hi,

Please move this [post] to the correct place if this isn’t correct.

There was a stop name: Hayes Mansion Picnic Area

It used to show up, but has disappeared from Pokemon Go months ago.

It is around 37.26256068240918, -121.82019305802042

Another one nearby is: Deer Run II Community Pool

It is around 37.26563992712878, -121.82371754676022

Edit:

The following 4 POI don’t show up on Pokemon Go:

  • Hayes Mansion Picnic Area (added March 2024)
  • Deer Run II Community Pool (added March 2024)
  • Historical Hayes Piano (added March 2025) (share with Hayes Mansion Picnic Area)
  • Eagle Rock Sign (added March 2025) (share with Deer Run II Community Pool)

The forum is not the place for location requests. You can make those through Help Chat at Niantic Wayfarer
A text bubble will pop up, a bot will ask for information, and then a human will get back to you with a decision.

If the location is currently correct, then trying to edit the location to get it to show up in Pokemon Go is abuse.

If the location is not currently at the real life physical location, you can provide evidence that the pin should be moved.

Both of these appear to be correctly located on the Ingress map.

Both of those wayspots share Level 17 S2 Cells with other wayspots. The Picnic one shares a Level 17 S2 Cell with Historical Hayes Piano. The pool shares a Level 17 S2 Cell with Eagle Rock Sign.

If the piano and the sign both appear in Pokémon Go as Pokéstops or Gyms, I suspect that the two wayspots you mentioned were moved into those cells, and that’s why they’ve disappeared, as the cells can only have one Pokéstop or one Gym.

OH! move the POST not the Wayspots - I misread, sorry.

They disappear probably earlier in the year.. January?

I guess we can update this.

Okay now that I understand the issue, I have this written up for when I see a wheresmypokestop question:

I know the prompt tells you that you are submitting a “Pokestop” but you are actually submitting a Wayspot to the database. The Wayspot can only become a Pokestop or gym if it is alone in a level 17 S2 cell. This is a good article about S2 cells and how they are used in PoGo: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

(Eligible Wayspots are added to Pokemon Go in a sync that happens once a day normally. If it has not been more than 48 hours since it was accepted, it could just be that it has not synced in yet.)

Wayspots that are not eligible to be Pokestops or gyms still have the potential to be used as Power Spots. It appears that there is a 22m distance requirement from any Pokestop or gym for it to be used this way, and it seems there is a limit of two active Power Spots per L14 S2 cell, the same size used to determine gyms. We explorers haven’t figured out the schedule for syncing in new Power Spots, but it is not on a daily basis at this time.

The piano is in the same L17 S2 cell as the picnic area. It is also too close to be used as a portal, so doesn’t show on that map I snipped earlier. I can show you that the eagle rock sign is in the same cell as the pool

The sign is the dot highlighted in pink.

Yeah, it use to show up. For months.

It was both added last year and disappeared.

The used to are the first 2 POIs

  • Hayes Mansion Picnic Area (added March 2024)
  • Deer Run II Community Pool (added March 2024)

As @hankwolfman explained, if it used to show as a Pokestop or gym, then it was most likely location edited to a position where it is no longer eligible to be used that way. We do not have access to anything that tells us where it used to be located.

If you mean that it used to be a Powerstop, we know those rotate, but not exactly how that works.

If its edited to a position to " no longer eligible to be used that way"

What is this position?

It was the only POI in the cell for almost a year. What other factors could it be?

Note: Question is for all who reads this. I expected it to be a hard question to answer and I asked around several places.

So I was hoping someone to point me to somewhere who can answer this.

If it shares an L17 cell with another Wayspot that is already a Pokestop or gym, then it is not eligible to be a Pokestop or gym. I illustrated where the cells are with the map of Ingress portals I showed. This map will stop updating with Wayspots and will be less and less useful for Wayfarer, but currently can be used to visualize what is happening.

If a Pokestop or gym is alone in an L17 and goes away then it is most likely a property owner request for removal.

The only folks who can verify what has happened here are staff if they choose to respond.

You can see where a Wayspot is currently located in the Pokemon Go nomination map screen if you are physically at the location and have the toggle turned on. If it is not being used in Pokemon Go, it will show as an exclamation point, which you can tap for more info. Like this:

Also

as the cells can only have one Pokéstop or one Gym.

That’s the bigger issue. ZERO of the 4 POI appears.

That’s the question and problem,

There is NO pokestop in those L17 cell.

I will leave this to others but wanted to be sure you saw this part of my response.

How can I get staff to check on this?
