I nominated a spot and yet it’s been rejected 2x but yet there are dynamax battles in the same spot how is that even fair
Welcome to the forums ![]()
A bunch of locations were imported to be used as powerspots for Pokemon Go. Some of these might be eligible to be wayspots, but a lot of them aren’t. The powerspot import did not follow the wayfarer criteria.
Be happy you have a home powerspot. Most people don’t!
Hello and welcome @deathspike1989
This would actually be a better topic for Nomination Support
As has been said Powerspots are different from pokestops in terms of inclusion.
If you could post your full nomination we can advise about any issues it may have.
Since this is at your home then consider what you want to say about the location for privacy issues.
I technically have 4 but yet I get denied a pokestop for what I’m supposed to go out and freeze in -20 weather to get tasks done
There is a grocery store right next to me and that’s the original spot I nominated
I have no couch powerspots or wayspots, which is the same as for most people. You are fortunate.
The criteria for wayspots are fairly clear, but the basis is that the wayspot must be a great place for exercise, being social or exploring. Most powerspot imports simply aren’t eligible to be wayspots.
Please have a look at these for understanding what makes a good wayspot.

Yes! Like everyone else, the game encourages you to go out and explore. If the weather is not suitable for that, then you should probably wait ![]()
A grocery store is not going to meet any criteria. It might have something that does meet criteria, such as a community noticeboard or a mural, but a grocery store in itself is not focused on social aspects, exercise or exploring.
Then maybe you should look at the nomination process because it says FOOD RETAIL
If you’re on about the tags you can assign during the nomination process, these are not a list of eligible things, and in fact there are many ineligible things on that list.
I’m sorry to say that those categories are not an indication of eligibility. They are simply collecting data about what the site may be.
are you talking about the categories? those confuse a lot of people and i wish they would remove them. it is just data. you can find categories for clearly ineligible places like “elementary schools”.
Ah, the list of categories. These are completely useless and have no meaning to anyone who uses Pokemon Go or any other Niantic game. They are there solely for data capture purposes and cause a lot of confusion, as this shows.
[Aside, not aimed at the op. This made me laugh - it’s like a red flag for a bull, when yet someone else has been confused by the wretched categories and everyone piles on.]
So a church and graveyard yard are also good nominations but when there are only 2 grocery stores in town there not good enough for pokestops wow that’s sad and pathetic
The list of categories in game has never been intended to be a list of what types of things are acceptable. Elementary school, preschool, power plant, chemical plant, and landfill are all also on that list.
Maybe that list should be edited to remove things that aren’t eligible to reduce confusion. But for now those categories exist for data collection purposes. (and perhaps maybe to make it easier for the ML model to reject obviously ineligible nominations)
Graveyards themselves are often not good nominations due to being sensitive locations, but there may be eligible things within a graveyard.
Graveyards are explicitly ineligible (even though many still exists in game). Specific things in cemeteries may be eligible.
Churches make good wayspots under socialization and exploration criteria. These are among the easiest POIs to get approved.
Wayspots are not about everything that people interact with. They are explicitly about exercise, social and/or exploration. Please read the links I posted earlier which explain this.
It may help you to read the following…
To take this a step at a time.
The current severe cold in N America ( it sounds as though that is where you are) is a separate issue from regular game play.
The weather is bad and if you are in a primarily residential area you might have a walk to get to a pokestop. I can only see 1 in your screenshots. As the game reminds us we need to take individual responsibility and care in these circumstances. Sometimes because of weather or other reasons we just can’t leave the house. And we need to remember it’s a game and we don’t need to play ( this is different from want to play).
At the grocery or the other nearby location is there any community noticeboard? Or any art work?
Is there any space nearby where kids play or people gather to spend time being social?
Grocery stores are normally generic businesses. “Generic business” is a rejection reason. However, if you can provide evidence that this is significant to your community, it isn’t specifically “ineligible.” People get confused about “eligible” and “acceptable” quite often.
So how could this grocery store be eligible? Does it have a unique history you could document in the submission? Does it have unique art? Is there a unique social space? If there are only two grocery stores, you might be able to find a reason like this to make a compelling argument that it does meet at least one of the criteria of a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social.
