Am I correct in understanding that the wayspot has already been removed from the Lightship map but the edits are still pending for review? This is an unusual predicament and would also like to observe what happens.

Yes i tried correcting location from pokemon go app and now i cant see wayspot.
and what is lightship curious to know if its related?

Was your location edit accepted?
The move had maybe causes it’s disappearing. There’re inclusion rules for every game and if the new location is too near to another POI the wayspot can’t be on the map anymore.

Niantic calls their database Lightship.
You might be familiar with the submission map. It shows all accepted wayspots, even the ones that do not appear in game as @AliceWonder1511 has pointed out. Here’s a brief article on the topic.
It’s a question of whether it only does not appear in Pokemon GO or has been entirely removed from the wayspots map that is unclear with your initial post. The details of the wayspot in question should enable us to check and give advice.

Someone else could also have submitted a location edit. If you give the name of the Wayspot and the location, someone here can probably check for you. Or you can start a nomination while you are right at the site with the toggle on, and see if you can still see the Wayspot as a ! as in the example here:
