This preserve had a lot of memorial benches and art made into pokestops. Think it had 20 or so stops and 4 gyms total. One day I see that every single one of them is gone.
It’s a shame because people walk their dogs and ride their bikes on the trails there so it’s not like it’s a problem with pokemon go players interfering with nature. It was one of the only good spots in town so sad to see it go.
Wonder if it could’ve been a mistake? I think pokestops were removed from military bases recently? Camp Pendleton is just down the road so I wonder if that has something to do with it.
Is there a possibility I could reach out to the land owners to reverse the decision? The wayspots appear to still be in the lightship database so they still exist, just removed from Pokemon GO.
When I saw Memorial Benches, most do not meet criteria but as you state “Everythings Gone” it looks like more than that. The military base is a possibility.
Yes, Camp Pendleton had all of their stops removed, along with some off-base. You may want to see this topic, as it seems like this issue hit other USMC bases and installations, as far as we can tell.
Best advice is to try and speak with everyone that lives around the base and send word to base command asking if they have any knowledge of the removals. We are only told that a property owner removed the ones around Camp Lejeune (staff do not disclose who the property owners/managers are), and this may be the same for Camp Pendleton. Some of the players around Camp Lejeune have gotten some off-base stops/gyms back after working together to try and find out more.
After some research, sounds like it’s probably military base issue. Someone in a reddit thread mentioned the same thing. Hope this gets resolved; I understand the opsec concerns, but it’s a bummer that so many stops had to get removed because they were near a military base.
Those in the thread I mentioned at Camp Lejeune asked around at the base, and got other players to do so as well. They got some off-base stops/gyms back, but not all. You may have to do the same for Camp Pendleton: ask around, get other players to do the same. Only the property owner that requested removal can ask that the stops/gyms be restored.
As for why they are still on Campfire, it’s because the Wayspots were removed just from PoGo, not from the database map. Campfire is a separate app, so it may still show the Wayspots as being stops/gyms, along with Power Stops for Max battles. If you try to nominate a new Wayspot in an area where they were removed, you’ll see them as orange explanation points on the map, meaning that they’re still in the database that Scopely has, just not in PoGo.
