Popular beach without sign - appeal?

Hi all,

I nominated this beach which is a really popular, family-friendly swimming location. I would have nominated a sign or something but it just doesn’t seem to have one. The waypoint was rejected by AI, would it be worth appealing? I understand natural unsigned features are eligible, but I was hoping people could help me understand if this would count or not.

It’s not going to burn me deep inside if it doesn’t get approved, but I feel like it is a popular enough place, good place to snorkel or swim, and probably deserves to be a point of interest based on the criteria I have read about beaches and natural places. Keen to hear what others think though! Any advice would be welcome.

That looks like a beautiful place to get some exercise exploring or spend some time socializing. While Niantic has clarified that places like parks don’t require signs, in practice, it is still incredibly difficult to get these types of nominations accepted by either reviewers or Niantic.

Hi @kervioh
Welcome to the forum :hugs:
I’d love to be there right now
You say that there’s no sign, could you find another physical anchor? A rule sign (about dogs at the beach or something like that), bench or platform …
You need a point which says you’ve arrived

I’ll have a look around, there are some waypoints already for picnic areas behind the beach but not for the actual beach, but maybe there’s something I haven’t noticed that could tie a physical object to the natural. Thanks both of you for the feedback, and yes! It’s a great place for a swim, the water is beautiful!

The problem with submitting the beach is that it is difficult to identify when you have arrived at the Wayspot. From the acceptance criteria at Niantic Wayfarer

Must be a permanent physical, tangible, and identifiable place or object, or object that placemarks an area

That is usually the issue with large natural features for me if I get them to review. And why a sign to visually anchor the Wayspot can help so much to get it accepted.

Hmm… I wonder if that is why they used an anchor for this illustration?

This clarification is park AND outdoor recreation.
Ok it doesn’t say beach but I think the principle is that it doesn’t need a sign.
But there is often a fairly clear arrival entrance point. I think that would be reasonable point.

Sounds great in principle - in practice though, appeal reviewers are likely to reject an appeal and state that you should nominate a sign.

You never know until you try.
With something like this you should be prepared that it might fail and take being accepted as a win.
