Popular local business rejected as generic

Hi all,

I recently submitted a nomination regarding a local pizza store in my area. This pizza store regularly sees a lot of people everyday, and has been for the last 50 years. It is known for being the only Greek pizzeria in the area and especially serves square pizzas, which no other pizzeria does. It has made it into the news several times where it discussed its history and the famous people who dined at the restaurant, sometimes regularly. Also, many sports teams and academic teams dine here as a celebration for their victory.

Yet when I give all this information, the nomination still got rejected on the basis of “generic business”, and I had used up my two appeals for the month, one of them on another place rejected for “generic business” but was later approved.

Is there anything else I could improve in my nomination? I feel like two major reasons for rejection is the uninteresting image that makes it look generic (I also had to crop out part of the bottom because I feared the license plate may be considered readable even though I didn’t think it was) or my description/reasoning wasn’t good enough (though the word limit certainly does not help), but I’m not sure if those are the exact reasons. Nevertheless, I definitely believe this is a worthwhile nomination and not just a “generic business”

Thank you for your time.

Use the description to sell this restaurant. Half your supporting info should be in the description instead. You are nowhere near the limit.

Also, just as an FYI, the name of a non-chain restaurant can sometimes be very unique.

I agree with @NvlblNm on this one. Plus what isn’t clear from your supplimentary info is if they have seating inside to eat, party and be merry. I can infer it, but I don’t want to assume that other reviewers can make the same conclusions.

“Signs for “Post Corner Pizza” could be seen in “Blondie” comic strips years ago, when the strip was drawn by Stan Drake, a regular to the restaurant.”

That’s a pretty big deal.

I would also separate Moby and Bobby Valentine. I realize that you were trying to list the more recently famous person first, but when I read it, I thought they were being presented as a couple. I had no idea who they were. Maybe say “famous DJ Moby and pro athlete Bobby Valentine.”

I would go inside to get a photo of their signed headshots hanging on the wall and add that to a collage along with your 2nd photo to submit that as your supporting photo.

I should note real quick that the “Blondie” Post Corner Pizza signs weren’t directed towards the branch I’m nominated, but a separate branch that was later opened in a different town, which was why I didn’t mention it. The branch I’m nominating, however, is the original and the only one that remains open in the Northeast. But I appreciate everyone’s advice, and I’ll definitely make the changes to my nomination!

Yes, I saw that. I’m not sure that matters too much, especially since the other one closed down. The 2 were related, though not identical copies of each other. I changed the way I wrote that phrase from calling the artist a “local” to a “regular” because he was not necessarily local to this location.
