Possibly not receiving emails now

I just tried again on my laptop, and it gave me the option to opt-in. I most likely won’t know though if I’m getting emails again until I submit something (have no current plans to do so), or if the nomination I still have in queue is resolved.

These pages are also extremely c onfusing, as you should get a message that you have opted back in, instead of being sent to a page to opt out again. You get a message when you opt out that you have done so, so why can’t there be one when you opt back in? That doesn’t seem like something hard to do.

I work in marketing for a large international company. Customers are able to control if they get marketing from us or not. If they show as opted out on our database, then that is within our control to help them change it either manually or by directing them on how to do it from their side.

It sounds like Niantic have a problem going on with their preference centre when accessed via mobile if you’re unable to re-subscribe, and that would need to be raised with the appropriate teams. In the meantime, they should be helping you change your preferences another way. The email provider may be able to unsubscribe you, but it wouldn’t provide a way to opt back in - that has to be done via the company in question.

I hope its finally resolved. It sounds like a very bad customer journey to be honest - hopefully Aaron is able to feed this incident back in case it is affecting more customers.

Yes, I worked in customer service for companies that sent marketing emails, along with other emails, like those for orders, and we were able to control this on our end as well. 1 was all email, 2 was just order emails, 3 was no emails at all, and 4 was that the customer didn’t have an email address or didn’t want to provide one were the codes for one of the systems I worked with. I still order from this company, and I know I’m a 2, as I just want order emails from them. I can also update my preferences on their website in my account.

But my issue happened first on my laptop, not my phone, and the screens are very confusing. You shouldn’t be taken right back to the page to opt-out of emails; you should get a message that you are opted back in. You get an opt-out message, but no opt-in one.

Yeah it sounds very confusing and it sounds like we are both quite aware of how things should work :sweat_smile: hopefully this feedback can improve things longer term

have you tried changing your linked email? maybe switching emails will reset you being unsubscribed since it will be a different email provider?

Why would I want to do that? That could cause issues, as it has caused issues for others in the past.

Are you getting email notifications for forum replies? I started receiving notifications pretty quickly after opting back in. If so, then you’re all set

The forum runs on Discourse, not the Wayfarer website. I’ve been receiving forum notifications via email as there is no connection between those and other Wayfarer related emails. You can even adjust your email preferences for the forums in Preferences.

because at this point niantic said they cant help you and you said your email is so old it theres nothing it can do, so you have nothing to lose.

A lot, as those who have changed email addreses in the past haven’t received emails. Maybe that’s something you’ve never noticed others having an issue with in the past, but it’s something I have. It’s not a risk I’m willing to take, especially when this should be something staff should be able to fix on their end.

but youre already not receiving emails right? and if the only 2 parties involved (niantic, and your email provider) cant help you, then youll never have this issue resolved. which means youll never get email from niantic. as for me personally switching linked emails, no ive never done that when it comes to niantic. but i have switched linked emails on other platforms, and annoyingly i noticed that all the spam and unwanted emails i had unsubscribed from in the past started sending me emails again because my preferences on my old email provider didnt transfer over to my newly linked email provider. going off of that i thought that if u switched your linked email that there would be a chance the same would happen. meaning you would receive the emails from those you unsubscribed from, and in this case your niantic emails. you do you though, good luck maybe a different niantic employee will reach out or something
