Hello everyone,
I would like to ask a question regarding gym distribution within Level 14 S2 cells.
I’ve identified a cell that currently has 30 PokéStops and 3 active gyms. However, the first gym that appeared in this cell was a sponsored gym.
My question is:
Is there any possibility that Niantic could consider allowing a fourth gym in cases like this, taking into account that one of the gyms is sponsored and may not follow the same rules as gyms generated from Wayspots?
I understand that there are standard limits based on the number of Wayspots within a cell, but I’m curious if there are any exceptions or special considerations when sponsored locations are involved.
I would really appreciate any insights or experiences you can share.
Thank you!
Welcome to the forum.
I am not staff, but they have said many times here that they do not have control over what kind of game location something becomes. If the sponsorship ends, and the sponsored gym goes away, another should replace it to get back to the total of three.
Edited to add an example:
I can confirm that if a sponsored gym is one of the three present, reaching 20 total stops will not cause a fourth to appear, but when a gym is deleted (sponsored or not) a new third will be selected as long as there’s still 20+.
I actually know of a local grid where both of these happened. It had a sponsored gym (a McDonalds) that was deleted in January, and then a new gym was selected, which was a decoration inside of a former restaurant that had been vacant for years but not reported. That gym was deleted in early March and a new third gym was selected (again).
I believe the second deleted gym was mentioned in this forum, it was named “Dragon Column”.
