Yesterday I made a report to remove a Wayspot that did not have safe pedestrian access and today that Wayspot (which was a Gym) was removed from the game.
But the PokéStop we had prepared to become the new Gym remains the same.
The cell where all this mess is located has 3 gyms that are sponsored (a 7-Eleven and two McDonald’s)
The new gym should be next to the one with the egg that says 41 minutes.
Iirc, from what the community has observed, if these gyms exist prior to a sponsored gym being added, more that three gyms can exist. If one of the existing gyms gets removed the sponsored gym will count towards the limit though, so it seems unlikely another gym will appear.

Sadly you have lost a gym.
If the sponsored gyms go then a recalculation will take place at that point.
Yes, sponsored gyms do count against the limit. A friend of mine had a new gym show up in his grid a couple months ago, when they deleted the sponsored McDonalds stops/gyms (in the US) as one of the three in his grid was a McDonalds.
