Recreating POI/PoGo Gym

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Alice und Benny Bunny
  • Location (lat/lon): 53.092123,8.80224
  • City: Bremen
  • Country: Germany
  • Additional Information (if any): Hi, some local players told me this POI has been removed maybe two weeks ago. I went to the place and checked for the art work. It is still available, on the exact same spot the POI was existing. Can you recreate the POI? It was a PoGo Gym before, can you also recreate it as such? Can you look up in which way the POI was removed? Is this abuse? Thank you.

What I am about to say is pure speculation and not necessarily any basis in fact or fiction.

One possible reason for removal is Niantic seeing this type of artwork as Vandalism. So unless there is some documented proof that this work is commissioned, it shouldn’t be accepted.

I do have to agree that this appears to be vandalism, not art created with permission. We do have clarification in regards to vandalism art:

We must have very different views of what counts as vandalism. We do have vandalism, as in spray tags on random walls but having a detailed artwork on a public utility box is normal and always a sign of public involvement by the city or community. There are many similar street art projects in different cities.

But if this is the kinda speculative argument I need to counter, I’ll just mention that having another detailed artwork on the other side of the box, in the same theme, speaks for this being a legitimate project and not a quick vandalism attack.

I have to agree that from the pictures here I would consider these artwork rather than vandalism.

My point is based on speculation based on how I understand Niantic’s criteria. The Wayspots in the First Post may well be eligible, but that would be for the Niantic Staff to determine. Whilst I agree that the image is artistic, it may go down to several factors which could include whether it is an approved piece of work and if the artist is known.

Thanks for the appeal, Explorer. We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire this Wayspot.

I respect your opinion. But I also believe this is not the correct place to post speculations on how criteria might work. There are other forum places to discuss these topics. I believe this part of the forum should mainly be reserved for official answers or those directly involved with a case.

@NianticAtlas I see. Can my community also learn the reason why this was eligible for removal? So we can be more careful with future submissions. Thanks for the quick clarification.
