Hi all,
I was curious why this stop was not approved. There are other stops in my neighborhood that have a very similar message boards next to the mailboxes, but my submission was not approved. What else can I provide to get this approved?
Please let me know if I need to provide more data/images and I will be happy to do so!
It appears that this was rejected by the automated ML bot eMiLy. As for the reason, it could be any number of things, to be honest. Maybe the reflection in the glass confused her?
You can appeal it from your contributions page if you would like.
A piece of advice, your supporting photo should always have the Point of Interest that your nominating in it as well. Typically a wider shot.
Here are a couple of threads with some great examples of excellent supporting photos:
This photo is so close that there is no frame of reference for the Machine Learning model to understand what this is. That would be my guess. If your reflection is clear in the full resolution photo, it could also be that.
I do not see the board in your supporting photo. Is it clear where it is on street view? The supporting photo should include the point of interest.
You get two appeals, each on a 15 day counter before you can use them again. If you use one, a human will review the appeal. I usually try to resubmit before I appeal, since appeals are more limited.
Hi @ethanhomerun
Welcome to the forum
The rejection phrase tells us that your nomination has been declined by the automated process (the first hurdle for all of us). Why exactly these process declines some submissions is out of our knowledge.
When I look at your nomination I’d see some possible improvements to be made:
your supporting photo doesn’t show the POI. If it’s hard to give a good idea how the area looks like, I’d use the new web-submission feature. Here you can add up to 5 supporting photos
your main photo looks like it could be on SFPRP (single family private residential property) so it would be good to give some more context that it’s not
As an example of how you could take the photos, here is a similar looking item I submitted.
Main taken at slight angle to avoid reflection but still look nice:
I had a concern here that someone would glance at this and think it was on SFPRP (Single Family Private Residential Property) so I mentioned the sign showing this a common area for the neighborhood.
I feel like I’m alone in this opinion but I’m not big on approving things in close proximity to mailboxes. I largely skip them now instead of disagreeing with the community.
Potential issues with random people and neighbors or the post office and the fact that community mailboxes are great targets for thieves just make me hesitant.
For us in the UK the Mailboxes are not really an issue.
The reason I may “Skip” is whether this is actually a “Community Noticeboard”. Can’t really tell from the screen grab but only space for 2 “posters” that look like they may be for the same location make me think this is more of an advert and I would treat the same as a “sign”.
IMO: Sort of like when Cinemas have the current Movie Posters in frames outside the cinema.
