Can anyone help me understand why this gets auto flagged?
It was also appealed before but still declined for not being significant enough. Its a series from a local artist based in Los Angeles where he puts his artwork up around neighborhoods.
Any advice on how to get this accepted would be great!
My guess… Being attached to a utility pole may be the problem. The ML bot and appeals reviewers may have issues with seeing this as permanent art instead of vandalism or something temporary.
Without looking at the map more closely, there could also be potential issues around it (possibly?) being on single family private residential property? Did you include Blake Shane’s post in your supporting information?
Who (if anyone) commissioned this piece? There is a difference between Mr. Shane erecting a series of art pieces on his own – which many will consider to be vandalism – and being hired to erect a piece of art.
Visually, this looks like something which could easily have been put up just to get a wayspot. I can easily see why it would get picked up and rejected by the ML system.
I also can’t see an easy way to get past this, as the ML system might not be able to use links to override this visual problem. This looks like one that needs appealing. If you use an appeal, it comes back after 15 days and there are 2 appeal slots, meaning you can make up to 4 appeals every month.
Honestly this kind of art might need appeal. I can see it in street view but its very small and not very appealing. Do you have any proof that his art work is in this particular location? The problem with this kind of nomination is that sometimes someone imitate the art to create wayspot (not saying you do this, but addressing this matter will increase your chance of acceptance )
Iv put in the text that its the work of blake shane but not the photo because i always thought the supporting photo has to show the surrounding area. Iv also noted that its on a sidewalk.
I suggest you to find prove that its art by blake shane. Put yourself in reviewer shoes. Is it really art by blake shane or something homemade and stick into utility pole(i am not saying you did this). I look into the instagram link but i didnt find this particular object. This is something that you need to address to increase your chance of acceptance
The supporting photo should show the surrounding area and the POI. Failing to include the POI is immediately suspicious, even though some people do it without realising, because it is very common with fake or misplaced wayspots.
unfortunately i dont think he posts photos of all of his work. My appeal also got rejected stating “Thanks for the appeal, Wayfinder! The nomination in question does not meet the Wayfarer criteria as it’s a mass-produced object” even though its clearly not mass produced.

your does not say it is by this artist, but is in their style. That is a good way to describe something that you are unsure of in terms of its attribution as it is open and honest.
However it is equally then clear to the appeal reviewer that the origin is can’t be demonstrated and is not known. As such someone reviewing is reasonable in my view to reject.
That is a frustrating situation for you.
If it is public art then money will have been paid and there will be an audit record somewhere.
Perhaps it’s time to draw a line under this one and move on ?
